Not sure if I should post this in here or not but figured you guys would know...
My ATK arrived today (will pot pics later)! I got it used...
I have a question on the "Tone Character Switch" though... It doesn't seem as if it's working. When you flip the switch back and forth is there a noticable difference? It all sounds the same to me...
The differences are subtle, but they are there. It took me awhile to be able to hear the frequency changes too. Try putting your amp and your bass EQ's flat, and play a scale or a lick at a comfortable listening level over and over until you get used to the sound and tone, starting with the switch in the center position. This will give you a clear, or neutral sound from the bass, and you should be able to hear the low and high frequencies clearly.
Now flip the switch toward the neck. This cuts the high frequencies back, while leaving the lows the same as the middle position. Play your scale or lick for a bit, then go back to the middle position, and you should be able to hear how the highs come back in with more of a "zing" and clarity. Flip back and forth between the two positions playing your scale or lick.
Now flip the switch toward the bridge, and you'll notice the tone gets more muted overall. This position is designed to mimic a humbucker pickup, the middle is designed to mimic a single-pole pickup, and the forward position is a single-pole with the highs cut.
Check out this Ibanez page for sound comparisons, [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. As you click on the sound files, it shows you the position of the switch, and what mode it puts the pickup in.
Have fun, and enjoy your new bass!
