Official Barefaced Bass Cab Club

Played a new (really great sounding) room last night and had some time before the show to mess around with pushing the Big Twin a bit (for fun). At one point I was using a Future Impact > U5 > QSC PLX1802 (bridged). I was using the Relax patch I uploaded in the FI patch sharing thread here and had the output of the FI around 3 o'clock: I then started pushing the volume of the PLX and I felt once I got to around 1 o'clock that it was going to be too much for the BT, but it did not flinch and I couldn't hear any signs of speaker distress even when I got to 3 0'clock (when I gave out). This patch really bottoms out at the end if you hold a note and it's very deep. The guitarist (a well-regarded sound engineer and musician/producer) was equally amazed at the volume that the BT delivers.
Aside from that, the BT performed great all night: I really appreciate this cab on gigs like last night where it is carrying ~80% of a great sounding room. One of my favourite tones was simply the Retrospec Squeeze Box (2.5:1 ratio, -15 thrs, eq rolled off to ~10 o'clock) > U5 > PLX > BT: that's my desert island tone.
And I can carry it with one hand if I need to.

The MBF800 really is a good amp for these BF 12's, IMO.

Agreed.

I would like a SuperMidget just to have a downsized version of this, I am curious about the BF tweeter.

I'd have to say that hasn't been my experience. I love my One10 and use it once or twice a week, mostly on lower volume restaurant gigs but with a full band. Coupled with my MBF800, I can't imagine a better smaller rig. That said, I'm looking to slim down to one cab for smaller gigs and my Bergantino CN212 for everything else. I've been using a Bergantino AE112 for smaller gigs and hoped that I could use One10 for everything that I had been using the AE112 for. I'm finding that's just not the case. I subbed at a blues jam a few times in the last couple of months. Relatively low volume - it's more of a bar with music than a club - and smallish room overall. I used the One10 twice with different drummers and players. I also used at an even smaller cafe gig though the band and music was on the loudish side. Not hard rock loud but louder than the jazz and acoustic music they usually have there. Typically, this is one my favorite rooms in terms of how my bass sounds. In both cases, I felt like there was something lacking. It wasn't a volume issue - still had plenty of headroom - but more like there was a roundness and fullness that was missing. I played the blues jam again last week and brought my Berg AE112 and it sounded fantastic. I'll use it for an upcoming gig at the cafe as well.

I'm not suggesting this is fair comparison. The AE112 is bigger and costs half again as much as the One10. And I'd hard pressed to imagine a better sounding 1x10 than the One10. I love, love, love the sound of it for lower volume gigs. But even with PA support it's just not quite enough for my other smaller gigs.

I'd still like to have only one smaller speaker setup. Maybe an Super Midget is the answer where I could get the portability of the One10 and the bigger sound of a 1x12. Love to check out a Super Midget. Anyone interested in a trade?

Broken record here, but the MB200 is just a great utility piece. I do like my MBF800 as well, but I almost think I could repair a rubber raft at sea or fashion an emergency spark plug out of an MB200. I am pretty sure McGyver had one. I'd kind of like to have a 2nd so I could keep it in my gig bag for a permanent backup-on-the-job.

I suppose you must have tried cranking the bass freq's up into the One10? Within reason of course, but I find that throwing some extra bass at it lends some of that fatness and fullness that might seem lacking when pushing the One10 at bit at its "flat" response. Like any cab, a single one sounds a bit more middy than 2 together do; it can be compensated for with EQ to a large extent.

Also agree that you just can't expect a single One10 to do what a big cab will do. I further agree it's a great cab nonetheless; I have been bringing the SM to gigs where it's lower volume presumably but I am not sure how loud it'll get, but like bringing the One10 for jazz, lounge, small spaces, etc. If it gets past a certain volume level, I'd prefer the SM. Nevertheless, love the One10 and gig it fruequently, when it suits the gig.

The weaker British Pound has me thinking about BF again. I'm trying to push myself over the fence by looking for YouTube videos, but most of the ones I've found are either just demos or very controlled environments with the very small models. I'd be thinking more about the Super Twin or Big Twin.
Does anyone have favorite videos on YouTube or audio on Soundcloud that shows the BF cabs off in a full mix environment?

The BT2gen3 goes insanely loud. I stopped trying to push it when my ears were nearly bleeding. This cab is nuts.

Picked up an Ashdown RM800 EVO yesterday to power my BF SuperTwin. Be interested to see how it compares to my ABM 500 EVO III. Gigs this Thursday and Saturday will give me a chance to test. I will take both heads so I can make a direct comparison.

Pardon my lack of expertise in this area but I'm new to speakon connectors. I've got my cabs coming soon and I was wondering if you guys ordered the Barefaced cables from them as well?
Any advantage? I/E performance, quality, price etc?
Or are they basically all the same providing you purchase some decent cables from another manufacturer?
Which brands do you use?

You can't go wrong with Neutrik Speakons.

No advantage to using Barefaced cables, particularly, although I am sure they are good cables. As long as you use a quality cable, you'll get a quality result.

Does your amp have a speakon connector, or no?

If the amp only has 1/4", then you can get a good cable with proper ends for about $35. Or you casn buy a speakon cable and an adapter-- I have Speakon adaptors, 1/4" cables, and Speakon cables so that no matter what I can hook up any amp and any cab.

For my Speakon-to-Speakon cables, I use Planet Waves Custom series 5 ft speakon cables that are thick (14) gauge, very solid cables -- which I got very affordably from www.bassstringsonline.com, approx $20 (less if you register as VIP). Jason also has adapters too. Always good to have a couple in the gig bag.

Cool thanks! Yes amps have Speakon jacks. I'll probably end up getting the cables from Jason.

Keep us posted. That's my current rig...ABM500 with ST, i like it with some grind dialled in. I'd be interested to know how it compares with the RM800.
Personally i'm also considering trying out a CTM100...100W of pure valve tone into the STdrool Anyone tried an ST with this head or similar (eg. Ampeg V4B, Bassman 100T etc)?

Sounds like a great combination - would love to hear it also. My principle aim is to lighten the load due to wrist problems, so I might even downsize the ST to an SM as most of my gigs are now mostly pub work. Or I might just try to afford the two of them and have the best of both worlds! Of course that will depend on how well the RM800 performs as I really do like the ABM - had two over a period of 10 years now.
