Finally able to test out my new rig at rehearsals this weekend, ready for a festival headline on Friday. Never been so happy with my tone, it sounds exactly how I've wanted my tone to sound for years.
The Barefaced Four10 is absolutely amazing, it's just filling the rehearsal room, I can hear the articulation and grind from everywhere in the room, not just directly in front like with other cabs I have owned. There's no muddiness either, even on the low A (drop A tuning).

How is the low end on the 4x10?

IMO Four10 has very good low end. It seems tighter, more focused, punchier than the 12's. It's certainly not lacking.

I've always found 12's to have a bit more expansive and "pillowy" lows than tens, (which I like) , but wasn't sure if those attributes also extended to the Barefaced lineup. I'm really looking to eventually buy a Barefaced rig but not sure exactly which direction to go.
The cab puts out as much low end as you want it to, without giving up or farting out. I can flick the deep switch, max out the low end and voicing control on the D800+ and play hard in drop A, and the cab handles it all, and fills the room with defined low end. It's unreal to be honest, never played a cab that can do that before
One direction would be to email Barefaced and strike up a conversation with Alex.
Of course language is imprecise, but I could see how one might say the 12's are more "pillowy" but then again not really... the 12's are still tight and controlled sounding, but don't have the same high bass bump that the 10's do... the horn, or lack of, is also an important factor. The Four10 also has very nice dispersion for a 410. I hesitate to call the Four10 "vintage" because it can go much more than that, but it has more of that vibe than the 12's do. I really like the Four10 with tube amps, I run a Fender Super Bassman with that cab usually, but have run it with the GK MBF800 with very good results too. It's a tough choice, all are good, just different. I hope you can check one or two out in person since you're nor sure which way to go.
This is a good suggestion, in fact, even if you were to order one, Alex would probably contact you before processing it into the queue to talk about your preferences and goals to make sure you're going to get the right cab for you. He really seems to like and value this dialog, so you're not troubling him to initiate such a conversation.

I've been chatting with him via his Barefaced email, he's really great at helping to identify what your needs are in terms of your sound and live tone. And I totally agree with you language is imprecise, and everyone has their own idea of what certain words mean! I think what I meant is that I've always interpreted 12s through my ears anyways , to have a bit of a fatter low end all around. There's a guy about an hour and a half from me who has a barefaced 8x10 and a Big Twin, so sometime I'm going to go over there and check them out.

Played an outdoor gig today... PA support, so just a single Two10 and the Mesa D800+
I haven't enjoyed the sound as much as this in... I really don't remember. Incredible combination. Can't wait to use the two Two10 together next weekend!
I would have the same rig, but my MBF800 is fried. I have an AG700 now, which allows me to use a third cab (AccuGroove Wedgie) if I want.

Have to admit I'm tempted by the two10. I played monsterthompsan's when he had it and liked the chewy tone. Wish I'd seen it when he put it up for sale...
I want a Two10 as well to run with my Four10. Just need to sell a couple amps, then I will place the order. I don't expect to need the big guns all the time, but it would be great to have them when I do!
Thanks for giving your comparison on the GK MBF800 and the AG700 earlier. The rig I posted above sounds just marvelous, and after using mostly just one cab, I could not help but notice the difference in volume output, because of double the speakerage and because using two allowed to impedance to drop to 4 ohms to get the full 800W... I had to keep the gain and master pretty low. I can't imagine needing to ever use a third cab, but options never hurt.
