Here is another question for the Barefaced faithful. When using an SC, is there any significant sonic differences if the cab is stood up on its end (handle onside) or on its side (handle on top)?

Standing it taller gets the sound closer to ear level. I never really noticed much difference with mine.

I ask because the asthetics of setting it on it's side works very well for me: no awkward flipping it 90° to stand it up, handle remains easy to get to, cover goes straight over, but the biggest reason is I have my Relay G10 receiver, tuner, compressor, BDDI, and Quilter BB800 mounted on a Pedaltrain Metro 24 that fits PERFECTLY on the long side of the SC. Badge plate will be sideways, but that is a small price to pay for near egonomic perfection!

I find it hard to believe no one has an opinion on this! Of course, it could be so stupid that y'all are just ignoring the dummy asking!

Well I don't own one, but physics will say on its side the woofer will be closer to the floor which will give the sound a stronger low frequency response because of the boundary reinforcement.

My 2 SC's are always stacked on their sides. That's high enough for me and I can hear everything even when standing 2" in front of them.

On the rare occasions when I use just one I stand it vertically. No logic. That's just the way I've done it.

The Super Compact's sound hardly changes when you put it on its side - where you stand relative to it and where it's placed relative to room boundaries make a much bigger difference. Use it whichever way looks good!

That is the perfect stack IMO.: I think you'll love it. I use it as well, when I need firepower (or to look badass). Otherwise, often just the BB2 or just the SM gig with me. Used SM alone last night but will use the stack Thurs and Friday.

I like the BF Four10 and use that with a tube amp but I don't think you can beat the BF BB2 and SM (12+horn) for the kind of tone I want and that cuts through the mix just so.

Makes me think of ordering a SM, to test the playback sound and volume. Then I can flip for a BB2 if I want a pair. Or I can flip the BB2 for a second SM. In the meantime, I could experience that pairing.

Alex really seemed to think the BB2 pair is the optimal way to go. I don't doubt that. I'm still trying to get an idea of how much compromise the SM is in terms of sound quality (volume isn't a concern).

Alex, I was thinking about how different people describe the low end of the various 12XN550 cabs - as to which cabs sound tighter.
I suspect that if you consider how many acoustically less-than-optimal rooms there are, is it possible that what some are perceiving is not so much the performance of the cabinet(s) themselves, but how the stronger low frequency response interacts with the room?
I know that what some people love about the Acme 10" woofer cabs is the very thing that a lot of people hate about them (how they behave in sub-optimal acoustic environments) - i.e. Boom City!
