+1 on the Acme comment, had two of 'em and couldn't wait to get rid them. Not even in the same league as BF!Alex, I was thinking about how different people describe the low end of the various 12XN550 cabs - as to which sound tighter.
I suspect that if you consider how many acoustically less-than-optimal rooms there are, is it possible that what some are perceiving is not so much the performance of the cabinet(s) themselves, but how the stronger low frequency response interacts with the room?
I know that what some people love about the Acme 10" woofer cabs is the very thing that a lot of people hate about them (how they behave in sub-optimal acoustic environments) - i.e. Boom City!
