I ran the different pot values and the 25k makes the fenders bass control less drastic or less boost and cut. Probably would make it alittle more of a fine adjustment. Just to let you guys know, there are very few occasions where you would need a pair of the supertwin cabs. With that monster carvin power amp the volume is like being at a motley crue concert. Sounds and feels massive, but it doesn't get the thick feeling under your fingers when playing at loud volumes like most cabs. You still feel quick and in control. Very nice.

Yeah, it is and these cabs can really take the power. Playing outside on a concrete slab next week so, you really need output in the low end. I plan to set them next to each other, splayed outward. Thats what gave me the most bottom end and dispersion without getting a muddy build up in the 250 - 500hz region.

I would think especially outside you'd get better dispersion and coupling efficiency between cabs by stacking vertically. No bass through the PA at the gig, I presume?

No bass through the pa. No matter what anyone tells you, you will not get as much low end coupling vertical stacking as having noth cabs on the ground. Ive tried it in every situation you can imagine. The extra low end is the only good reason for hauling two cabs so, why lose the benefit?

Got the fender tbp-1 preamp. A truly flat setting is with bass 10:00, mid noon, treble 11:00, parametric mid frequency 3:00 with level maxed. There is still a big mid dip with traditional passive flat setting. The pre sounds grwat with WAY more low end than the vtrm. Some real tube clean and gritty sounds to be had. A very under rated preamp. Ive got an ashdown rpm1 arriving tomorow that should givr me the fatness of the fender and the mids of the vt. The supertwin lets everything shine. Ill update tomorow. Gig on saturday using both cabs.

70s to early 80s, high gain channel but built tot he standard of higher end British amps, so barely any hiss on the high gain channel, which sometimes comes as a shot. Practice room recording covers a bunch of the tones that can come out of them running the channels in parallel. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Got the ashdown, it's super fat in the bottom just like I remembered. Put it on the analyzer and it has a wide boost from about 100hz and down which accounts for this. With the bass at 10:00 and the 180hz slider down one dot, the preamp is pretty flat. I could eq it much better after that. The supertwin really made those huge lows sound great. Of the 3 preamps, plus a joemeek sixq and genz sm9.2, the VTRM (while needing some low end boost from the carvins DSP) wins it for me overall. It's just doing alot of things to get a sound I like that I would really need to do some knob twisting on another preamp. And, thats if I could find a preamp with the right character to begin with. Aside from maybe building a 500 series rack with some API pieces, I guess that I've pretty much reached the end. The twins are just one piece of the puzzle that I don't even think about anymore. Right bass, compressor, preamp, amp, cabs. My tone.

If you want CLEAN preamp.. A 500 series is the way to go.. A-Design maker of REDDI makes a great preamp the VENTURA... About the best you can get for bass... More API than SSL...

Like a Neve or API.. Vintech makes a nice NEVE 1073 type clone but not quite.... i used on for years then went to my 70s alembic F2B..
Neve will be a little warmer than the API that i have used.
At times i take my recording channel out and use an A-Design 500HR rack with a BAC500 Comp and Eriksson Montessi 500 series pre.. its pretty damn nice.

Have you tried teh BBE Tube preamp? Its alembic-ish... But with added para eq too

Did you push the shape/flat button INTO Flat position? This is a common misconception with this amp/preamp
