The cab actually has pretty flat response with a small peak around 2.5k. Most cabs have more dops and peaks so yours may sound congestes in comparison. With a flat amp kike the genz sm9.2 it sounded like you described so I boosted 3k and cut alittle around 500-800hz. My vtrm does just that from the start so, at gig volume i cut the 3k treble control just alittle and boost the bass just alittle with character 2 clicks to the right. That is awsome rock territory. At low volume i set the trebke flat to get the aggression back. My bass has a buffer which will sound more clear and bright than a passive by the way.

What seems to be the micro head of choice with the Super Compact? Based on my experience, Monique is terrible; dark and congested. Walkabout is better, with plenty of EQ power, but not enough wattage to rock out. Buster sounds glorious, but it is far from micro.

I'm thinking GK MB800. I'm also reconsidering my position on the Aggie TH500. I'm thinking crisp and bright.

Hey everyone. First post on the forum. Just got my Big Twin 2 in this week. Have only gotten to play through it for about an hour with the band but I'm impressed already. The crossover has a lot of impact on the overall tone. Need more time to play but I think I'm going to like this cab a lot. Going on a week tour through Montana starting Friday, so I will have a thorough rundown after.

Just wanted to share my entire new rig. Mesa Prodigy, Barefaced Big Twin II Gen 3 and my first 5ver, Lakland DJ5. Hoping this will be it as I have been through so many great pieces of equipment and need a break. The list from the beginning, Traynor YBA200 and Ampeg 4x10 LHF, Fender Super Bassman 300, Mesa Powerhouse 4x10, 1x15, 2x10, Streamliner 900, Thunderfunk 550B, Ampeg Heritage SVT and 8x10 cab, Aguilar DB751 , Aguilar DB212,(White Tolex) Reeves Custom 225 and Reeves 4x10 Cab. (White Tolex) TC Electronics RH 450, TC Electronics Staccato 51, Piccolo 600, TC Electronics BH250, sold it and bought another one later on for rehearsing only, Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 which I still have and keep as a backup for the Prodigy. If you asked me which ones were at the top of my list I would put the Aguilar DB751 #1 and the Heritage #2. I moved away from both of them because I do anywhere from 50-80 gigs a years and I am tired of the weight as I also bring the PA and Lights. I am hoping to love the Prodigy close to as much as I loved the DB751 and Heritage. Well that's all folks thanks for listening to my crazy journey.

Two things:
1) What is the status on the six10 retro?

2) Id like to stack my pair of supertwins vertical sometimes but, I dont trust it because of the wheels. The top cab WILL roll off. I used some foam between cabs but its not quite right. I'll probably get out the roughter and makes something out of plywood I think. Maybe the cabs will couple better with wood too?

The bottom line was the Hathor 1203 was probably our favorite in an overall sense. We each favor P style tones with an "open" and articulate upper mid, but no high zingy treble. The TC112 was a bit polite (as expected). The Barefaced felt a bit mid present, and the one-way design wouldn't let it do what the crossover allows for with Duke's cabs. The Barefaced was the most "rock n roll" sounding and could definitely pump out the lows, but the mids were congested and boxy, particularly with Monique. The GK Fusion head with a 4-band EQ helped quite a bit, but it doesn't cop the crossed over 2-way design sound. I think it needs to be heard in a band context for a better evaluation. My gut also says it probably takes fuzz tones the best of the bunch, though we didn't pop a pedal in the line. I think the BF Big Baby would be a better performance comparison (2-way crossed over design).

Nostatic liked the weight and form factor of the Barefaced. I liked the fit and finish on his Hathors.

I'm pretty happy with my SC. If I'd heard it before I bought it, I might have gone with a Big Baby for the crossover articulation sound at lower volumes (practicing).

I still haven't managed to crank it up in a band context, but I'm thinking it will sound good in a rock band setting and a bit of fuzz. In fact, the Orange Terror 500 has me thinking it might play well, and my local jam space has those heads as back line. Otherwise, I can see the Walkabout taking a backseat to a higher powered micro with a 4-band EQ with high and low mid controls.

I have found that finger style playing toward the fretboard, Geezer style, opens up the midrange, and that adjusting attack can get you a variety of tones.

Looks like I'm finding some interesting EQ sweet spots and overdrive tones with my Buster and Pork Loin and P bass. I'm sorta thinking a Puma for a big power clean amp, or an Orange TB500 for a all in one dirt tone.
