Official Barefaced Bass Cab Club

I'm sure I don't really need a dubster as most of my gigs are at larger venues that have a P.A. But playing in a reggae band I was always curious about the dubster so when this used one came along at a good price. Well...... I have only used it on two gigs so I need to get quite a few more gigs under my belt with it so that I can get a balanced sound from it using it with the BB2. The times I've used it have been bridged so both cabs were taking the same out put but I think I need to run my power amp in mono mode and have each cab on a different side of the amp so I can blend in the right amount of dubster.

No problems with it - we're just too short of space to sit on a pile of 18" drivers (and plate amps for the LF1400) that we only get through slowly. When we have a bigger factory we can reintroduce it, or if lots of people want to buy them we can do limited runs where you pre-order.

Anyone in the Montreal area interested in potentially trading a Two10 (4 ohm only, steel grill) for a One10 plus cash on your end? I upgraded to a Two10 a few months back, but since I don't have a car here, I think I need a public transport friendly cab again. Figured I'd mention it here before posting in the classifieds. PM if interested.

I own a Super Compact and a Super Midget, which is good.
Sometimes I would like to have a more tight and mid-tone sound.
How do think a combination of Super Compact and Two 10s or Four 10 would be?
Anyone with experience of combining Barefaced 12' with 10' ?
My Amp is a genzler magellan 800.

I have a Super Midget on the way. I bought it just because other than being light, small and LOUD, it's the most flat and neutral sounding. If you want a different sound you can change bass or use a preamp pedal, which is what I'd suggest for your needs. I use a BB800 with preamp pedals and/or EQ pedal to get many different tones with a P w/flats.

I have a question about "pushing" a Super Twin cab:
Last weekend I took my Super Twin and D800 to practice in a large studio as a dress rehearsal for an upcoming show. I haven't used the ST at super high volumes for a few months. It takes a lot to make these speakers visibly move, but the large room with no PA support was forcing me to push the cab pretty hard. My Gain and Volume were just over 12 o'clock, and my EQ wasn't set to some wild extreme. However, the odor of hot plastic started coming from my cab shortly after I started. I backed everything down and hooked up a second cab to relieve some stress on the cab.
My question is, how common is that? I don't think I was pushing the cab harder than before. Could it be because I haven't used it in a while? And what is that smell anyway? I thought heads were supposed to smoke and cabs just blew out. Plus, the D800 is rated at 800w while the cab is rated much higher than that.

You're probably were too careful to let this happen, but the first thing I thought was, "the D800 will do down to 2 ohm; was it set for the proper load?" Other than that, I got nothin'.

Were you using a HPF? I read something Alex wrote one time where he didn't recommend using a HPF with the 12" cabs. The speakers rely on the large amount of excursion they are capable of to stay cool. On the other hand I have also seen comments by him where he didn't seem as concerned about the use of HPFs. Alex checks this thread often and I expect that he will have some info/insight for you when he does.

I drive my D800 into a BB2 at similar levels and the cab handles the power no problem. Have you checked your speaker cable is OK?

I have a D800+ and a ST. That amp and cab are a great match for each other. I can't imagine that the amp would hurt that cab with those settings. Did you feel any heat from something?

I have the D800+ as well with my BB2 and I'll hit the limiter before the cab even seems remotely stressed. I also keep the HPF on the amp in between 7 and 8 o'clock. My BB2 recently broke in but I threw some volume at it to see how it does.

No additional HPF beyong whatever the amp has in it.

Nothing jumped out at me as hot, but I didnt run it like that very long.
When the voice coil or magnet is worked hard, they get hot don't they?
