Can I get a number?
A quick question: how do you usually set the Tweeter in your SM?
 
It depends from what position you look at the big knob.
I kinda like it almost full on, but the background swish is a little bit annoying. I have mine around 40% now and it's silent with enough treble.
Generally speaking, I'm curious to hear if you set your rig darker but with trebly tweeter or the exact opposite. I think it would be smart to set other pedals having the tweeter around 50% so you can cut or boost treble depending on the situation.
 
The noise is coming from your amp. Some have more noise, some have less but all have some - it's just the laws of physics.
I know, it wasn't a complaint at all. Honestly, I've never heard my P w/flats into my BB800 sound so defined in the high frequencies. That was great.
I set my tweeter usually around 2 o'clock.

Look at the picture I posted before (post #8382) and imagine standing in front of the amp and looking at it from the top. 2 o'clock is almost full on, right?

Look at the picture I posted before (post #8382) and imagine standing in front of the amp and looking at it from the top. 2 o'clock is almost full on, right?

I'd say "full on" (allowing the most freqs to get to the tweet) is about 10 o'clock as you look at it from the back. So, I THINK we're on the same page, just you're envisioning the clock viewed from FRONT and I am envisioning it viewed from behind the amp cab, where you're looking staright at the dial. Full off, in the way I view it, is nearly all of the way around to about 8 o'clock, so the range is about 10 "hours". So, I set mine about 60% of the way down from the highest crossover point (8 o'clock position that sends the least part of the freq range to the tweet) to the lowest crossover point (10 o'clock, sending the most freq's to the tweeter). That is, I set it 2 o'clock to to get 60% of the freq range in question to the tweet, 40% to driver.

It's a little confusing to try to express it since its a crossover point, not a straight-up tweeter level.

I ran mine as a PA for synths and sampled sounds on Sunday. There were some bright synth sounds that I wanted to tame, and the overall composition needed a darker vibe, so I set the dial closer to 3 o'clock. I'll often run it at noon for such things, though rarely wide open. For bass playing without a cab sim, I run it all the way off because I use distortion and don't care for how that sounds coming through the "tweeter."

I believe Alex said the roll-off is around 4K without the compression driver. My limited experience in the DAW world of mixing has shown me that I like many substantial sounds (pads, leads, melodic instruments) pass filtered around that point. Some instruments need that extra zing. However, bass is so substantial below 4K that I don't feel it needs much above that.
 
Thanks, man. I didn't even realize that there's a manual for the cab, I've just read the only paper I've found into the package.
I was testing the cab with my pedalboard before, and I realized that depending on the tweeter settings my pedals, especially dirt, sound completely different. I need to experiment more of course, but to get approximately the tones I've gotten with my other cab I needed to turn the tweeter completely off.
I don't know if I must engage the tweeter and re-tweak all my pedals or just leave it off. I'll do some more tests, but I'm curious about what you do when using pedals into a clean amp.
 
One thing to remember is that on the BB2 and Big Twin the tweeter control affects the crossover point between the woofer and tweeter, not the output level of the tweeter. So you're not exactly turning the tweeter off at the extreme "low" end of it's rotation. You're lowering the crossover point to about 4KHz, which actually sends the most signal to the tweeter.

When you turn it all the way clockwise to "max" it, you've raised the crossover point to about 10KHz, which sends only the highest frequencies to the tweeter. At that setting, most of the signal goes to the woofer which rolls off at about 4KHz and gives you a warmer, more "classic" or "vintage" tone.

The effect is that knob can seem to work "backwards" until you kind of internalize that. I had to keep reminding myself what's going on for a while as well.

That being said, I do find that the sound I get with dirt pedals can be harsh when the knob is set to its minimum (i.e. the lowest crossover point, which means the tweeter reproduces more of the signal, from about 4KHz and up). I don't use pedals often, but I tend to raise the crossover point when I do (i.e. turn the knob clockwise) and find that a dirtier tone sounds better that way. YMMV, of course, but that's one way to approach things before you start futzing with pedals settings that you probably worked hard to get right.

Actually, these days, I've been keeping the tweeter control close to maxed out - just liking the tone that way.
