I like the character of the 10s without a tweeter, it seems to be the way they were designed to be used although no doubt there will be those who welcome the option. Makes me wonder whether there will be a 210t/410t/610t.... The extra cost will put it closer to a Super Midget so that becomes a more viable choice, although I expect there will be significant tonal differences between the two cabinets.

Alex will answer I'm sure, but as a One10 owner, I'll say that it's not designed to be a super accurate speaker, and I'm sure that is also the case with the tweeter - it's designed to sound like a 'classic' (read: Ampeg) bass cab. For super accurate, they've got their 12" models like the BB2. I don't know about how they'd perform as studio monitors - might be a bit large for near-field, but perhaps they'd work for far-field? They're designed as bass cabs first and foremost though of course.

They're not accurate enough for studio monitor use but I've used them as PA speakers in our rehearsal space. I know we've said stuff about our 10CR being more classic sounding than the 12XN, and that's definitely the case, but it's more honest and transparent than a lot of speakers that claim to be relatively "hi-fi". I was surprised at how well it works with a good crossover and tweeter, for the kind of full-range honest sounds that I'm usually after.

Great if one has choice anyway. So some guys could buy one with tweeter and another one without the tweeter which would make full-range mini-stack. But again I am sooo happy with my original One10 inherent tone that I even stopped using my SM.

I've had my eye on the Super Twin ... the idea of a lightweight vertical 2x12 4 Ohm cab is appealing. ~$1500 with lighter weight silver cloth and a cover is quite a gamble for something I've never even seen before. Anybody here gigging one of these bad boys?

The Super Twin is a great cab, you won't be disappointed.

^^^ IMO the Super Twin has plenty enough clarity for bass guitar, but I never was much into tweeters either. If you're worried about not having enough high end, you could go for the Big Twin, but I really don't think it's necessary, perhaps see if you could try both cabinets to see which one will suit you better.

I had a silver cloth'd ST and it was a great cab and I didn't miss a tweeter at all. But I do miss the cab. Should've kept it.

The Big Twin looks amazing but it's in a higher weight class - I'm liking the idea of a lighter simpler cab - thanks guys - I'll continue lurking and window shopping

Super Compact?

How about try a Super Compact and if that's fine add another. Or if you want a bit more treble, add a Super Midget.

This works out a bit dearer than a single Super Twin but it gives you modular rig options too.

That's what I do.

I used to run 2 SC's but changed one for an SM. I didn't need to, the SC's covered all the range my active Jazz bass put out, but there is a little more "air" in the SM.

I'd bet the SC would be fine without a tweeter. The 12" woofers get plenty bright for most applications

I see you're in central PA. I'm in south jersey right outside Philadelphia if you ever want to check out my super twin. I got it right as lockdown started.

It's impressive but still limited by physics.
With the 212 cabs keep in mind the internal volume is bigger on the cabs with the compression driver. This could allow for some additional low end response. I don't have experience with the dual driver cabs, but I can say that going from a SC to a BB2 resulted in more than just additional top end.

Thank you! That is a very generous offer. My kid goes to Temple (when the campus isn't closed) and my sister lives in Vorhees so we're down that way every so often. I'm in York now but will be living in Lancaster soon so it's not far for me at all. Plus - I do have some tentative gigs down that way as well. Time will tell.

It's such a big expense and a gamble when considering these high end cabs. I want to do it right - and hopefully make it the last big rig purchase for quite some time.

Yes I own one and it's quite incredible. It's a 4ohm cab that's pretty light for its size (37lbs) and very good sounding with my many heads. It also has wheels (easy to get around). It has a huge output (1200wts). Very efficient as well! I highly recommend it.
