Great to hear from another South Jersey native. I grew up in Audubon and live near Deptford now. There's more than a few of us with Barefaced cabs around here.
Sorry to be such a doubting Thomas ... but I guess what I'm up against at this point is the cost vs portability vs performance.
For example - a pair of Mesa 400watt Subway 12's (with covers incl.) would be $1500 shipped and $250/mo for 6 mo. thru a certain store's financing. A stout but manageable 33lbs ea.
A pair of BB2's would be closer to $2200-$2400 and like a beautiful 26-29lbs ea.
Are the barefaced that much superior to the Mesas for example? Anybody have experience with a direct comparison?
I know I originally thought about a Super Twin as a more elegant solution... but maybe modular (w/ tweeters) would be better in the long run?

I'd just try one BB2. It could easily be enough on its own.
Better still, email Barefaced and ask them. You won't get marketing BS. They were pretty accurate when they answered my questions.
I believe @mmbongo might. I seem to recall that he was a Mesa user.
Compared to the Mesa 112, my guess is that a BB2 will probably give you more output (I haven't done a comparison, so I can only guess, though I did use an older PH 115 for a while about 10 years ago), but I don't know if it is enough to offset 2x112 cabs from Mesa. Thus, you'd need a 2nd BB2, or possibly a SM to pair with the BB2.
^^^ I actually own and gig a Mesa Traditional Powerhouse 15 now and it's glorious in very way. Except for the size and weight - lol
I can't speak directly to this but my 1 SC is as good as the 2 Eden Ex112s that I replaced with it.
Indeed I have the Mesa 1x12, a Barefaced Super Compact, and have had a Super Midget. I have never used the Barefaced BB2 so I can't give you a direct answer. But based on my experience with the other Barefaced cabs, there's no way a single 1x12 will come anywhere near a pair of good 1x12's...be it Mesa, Genzler, Bergantino, whatever. You cannot defy the laws of physics. All of these cabs get the most possible out of a single 12" driver, but at the end of the day it's still one 12" driver.
I've got a SC and a BT. The bass extension of the BT is remarkable but when I put 1000 watts into the SC it can fill a good-sized room with bass. I imagine any of these new good 1x12s would be about the same.

To me what seperates Barefaced 12s and 10s from the rest is their dispersion. When playing in places with no PA support it's simply amazing how even the room fills with my bass. I was blown away how good a BB2 I had sounded in a terrible room. Now I personally didn't like the BB2 when I got the Mesa WD800 so I use a Two10s now. I get the same results with that cab. I try walking around with my wireless during soundcheck and you can hear everything from every corner of a room.

Yep. With all my cabs, my Super Compact is my most used because it's the lightest and easiest to carry. And of course it sounds great. It's not my favorite sounding cab at home, but at bar gigs it's perfect.
As I'm sure you are aware, what sounds good alone often sounds bad or buried in a mix.
Interesting observation as I too prefer my Mesa (800+) with my Two 10s but with the BB2 the Bergantino Forte HP is my preferred option.
