Well folks, i've done it. after months/years of daydreaming, during a recent moment of strength/weakness i ordered myself a SUPER TWIN with silver grille cloth. Aside from some fleeting panics of remorse for having spent as much on another speaker, im feeling pretty excited about it. A does-all gigging cab that i wont dread moving.
I DO, however, find myself waffling about wanting black instead of silver grille cloth. my other BF cabinets all sport silver, and im just wondering if i will then have TOO MUCH silver. see below.
so i wonder if you might help me by providing this Talk Bass forum with relevant discussion as well as pictures of your Super Twin sporting either black or silver cloth -with the new logo. there seems to be a deficiency in good pictures of the aforementioned.

Much prefer Silver cloth - but then I prefer the old logo too.

I have 5 Barefaced cabs, 2 x One10's, SM, SC and BB2 and they all have silver grill cloths.

BF only had the silver option when I started buying, which is OK because I prefer that vintage look.

Sorry to say but I got rid of my Super Twin. I found it lacking highs and I wanted a more tight sound. I also tried the 210 vintage. I thought it sounded a bit old skool. I neededna cab that was pretty flat to be powered by Monique and the Baby Sumo.

I traded it with a Euphonic Audio 210 that I like better.

I wasn't a fan of Monique and a Super Compact. I needed the portability of the SC more than the sound of Monique so I sold Monique. For me it wasn't the lack of highs in the pairing as much as the mids felt too prominent and there wasn't enough EQ in Monique to get things where I wanted. I had a green boy 15/6 that worked better with Monique but that cabinet was a nightmare for other reasons.

Before I ordered my BB3, I spent some time listening to Alex' comparison videos, a series of three or four videos he did playing bass lines through a BB2, SC, and 210. (For anyone interested, I believe he took those lines from his own original songs, if you want to get a taste of what he played with his band.) I made notes as I listened. It became clear early on that I was going to go with one of the two 12" cabs. Reading through the notes, at one point I observed that the sound of the SC had a "wet blanket" sound compared to the BB2. That gave me what I needed to make my order.

By the way, I know YouTube isn't necessarily great or even good for reproducing high end audio. But my theory is that if a single person is doing a demo of several different things of the same category, and that person is doing an honest job of keeping all the variable the same as possible, then in that case YouTube is a perfectly legitimate means of comparing audio sources. So I trusted Alex' demo of different cabs, and I trusted YouTube to not do different things to the sound of each cab.

My Super Compacts made some new friends at rehearsal last night. Both amps recent purchases; the Yamaha (1980s model, 100W, all solid state, MOSFET power section) needed fixed up, but she's all better now. The Genz Benz needs some servicing, but works well enough to play it as is. I've put a couple hours into it and I think it might have what I wasn't getting out of my WD-800.

I don't know of any Yamaha bass amps that used MOSFETs.

There's still a factory flat rate service program available for the ShuttleMax.

The Genz was my amp of choice with my SC after I sold Monique.
I still lust after the Mesa Buster I had briefly. It paired nicely with the SC, as long as I didn't need to transport it

As far as the Yamaha, I'm just repeating what I've read online. It's a B100-II. I have the service manual, but what I think is the part is only listed as a FET (I'm also not a technician and don't know how to interpret some of this information...)

Output transistors are Toshiba BiPolars, not MOSFET. What you read online is not correct, and not surprisingly so.

The only FETs in the entire amp are the input JFET and power amp JFET diff pair, and the 2SK30 parts are unobtanium (for the real part and not a Chinese ebay knockoff (fake) which are not the same thing at the original Toshiba part).

IMO Aguilar amps and Barefaced cabs just work at the highest level.

I gig various combinations of TH500, TH700 and AG700 amps into BB2, SM and SC cabs. I'm sounding better now than I have at any time in the last 40 years.

Have you had any issues getting enough power out of the AG700 with one cab? I'm wondering with one BB3, what kind of gigs can you cover with only the 350 Watts delivered?

Depends how loud you need to be. I used 2 cabs (BB2/SM) on last week's very loud blues rock gig, with the TH700 master volume on about 10 o'clock. I have also used the TH500 (so 250watts) into 1 x SC for Top 40 covers gigs.

Barefaced cabs are loud for the watts. They also have good dispersion so can be easily heard across the stage and around the room. For more (authoritative) info I'd email Barefaced with your questions.

Thank you for the info! I have a BB3 and SMT coming per Alex's recommendation, but I wasn't planning to be in the market for a new head. My current head is having reliability issues so I'm exploring options before my barefaced cabs arrive.
