There are quite a few folks that pair one of the mesa subway heads with barefaced cabs. I use a Mesa TT-800 with my bb3's. Sounds great, lots of power and two distinct channels. You could probably find one of the mesa heads voiced how you like it. Light, loud and little. Great amps.
I've also used a Quilter BB800, Mesa Subway D800 and Berg Forte HP. All fantastic sounding amps, but not quite enough to dislodge my Aguilar amps.
My current Euphonic Audio Micro550 is truly fine with the Super Compact, but I am semi-seriously in flux. Mesa, Ampeg. Anyone here pairing a Milkman with a Barefaced cab?
The powered cab concept for bass has been around for a long while and your reasons for preferring separates are still valid.

I use a D-800+ with a pair of Big Baby 2's . Similar to what @gstaats said above, that Subway head also has lots of power, although with a different feature set. I can get very high volume with full and deep low end and as much definition in the high end as I want (depending on how I set the crossover point in the tweeter control).
The great thing about the Subway heads is that they all have different feature sets and different tonal characteristics, so just about anyone can find a great match for their needs in that line.

I havent had just cause to run them both yet. Most of the time I only need the One10. I run the 2Ω switch on all the time for 300/600 watts and am very happy.
Alex may have some news for us regarding 10" speakers soon. That could cause a few Two10 cabs to come up for sale.

HAHA!! hopefully we'll both get one at good prices! In the meantime, this Sunday I'm buying a used Euphonic Audio NR210. It will be good to compare them. Very different concepts though.
The EA is a different animal -- totally clean. I like that cab a lot.
Yeah. They seem well respected among the clean freaks. Probably share more tonal characteristics with my SuperTwin than a CR10. My limited cab selection is getting weird. When I recently bought the 65 Amps Apollo 50 watt tube head, I wanted to try something besides the SuperTwin. So I splurged and picked up a used Ampeg PF115LF. $279, and guess what?? Before I go any further, I should explain that my forthcoming thoughts are only relevant on the studio/home player/small gig level. So, I'm not even considering volume, moving air, etc, only tone at low volumes.
I recently find myself with two very different cabs (the BF and the Ampeg ),
with four amp heads on them (65 Amps Apollo, Mesa TT-800, Markbass LM Vintage 500, Genz Benz Shuddlemax 9.0 ). The Mesa and the GB each have two discrete channels, with the GB capable of combining its two. So I essentially have 7 amps. How could I not test each of these amps, EQ,s set flat, with the two cabs for comparison. Played my 66 P bass. Cost difference between the two cabs over $1,000.
This isn't a proper review with an amp-switching unit, but a casual practice session just switching speaker cables to the amps, etc. I'm also not a pro, but a hobbyist with a home studio. My perspective is therefore limited, and represents a rather low bar. However, given that, and that my ears are pretty good, having spent the last 40 years as an executive in the record and film businesses. My one paragraph observation:
All of the heads into the BF sound excellent, and although the heads are quite different from one another, they are all great, but if I had to pick a winner, it would have to be the Genz Benz, with its versatility and UI in general. A very exciting amp to play around with. With the Ampeg 115, all amps sounded surprisingly good. I was a little shocked at how much I was appreciating this cheap cab. Quite retro as you would expect, and definitely lacking the definition of a BF, but great nonetheless. Hence, my preference for the 65 Amps Apollo, which is a B15 circuit, is the Ampeg. They just sound right together. I'm picking up the Euphonics 210 this weekend to stick it on top of the Ampeg 115 to see how they play together. that's it. Have a great weekend everyone.
