I agree. The closest I've got is with an acoustic bass guitar with a duster under the strings by the bridge, wearing it tilted more vertical and plucking with three fingers together.

You need to remove energy from the string (which the double bass does by projecting it as sound) at the right frequencies and at the right moments. I don't think a filter pedal could do it unless it changed its filtering based on the frequency of the note being played. I suppose that is possible with digital stuff though.

Could someone make some kind of envelope filter that added, to your bass guitar, the DB finger noise at the front and emulated the more gradual swell and faster decay? "Turn your BG into a DB - cheap at twice the price!"

The Source Audio C4 Synthesizer pedal has several presets shared in the community app that attempt to do things like this.

In performance, I've found that, depending on the genre, you can -sort of- get away with achieving a close-enough sound on a fretless bass guitar, with careful tone tweaking and technique, IF the ensemble includes a drum kit. Without drums, the "deficiencies" of the bass guitar in copping the upright sound are way more apparent - in my experience.

Anyway, after years of chasing after this solution with various bass guitars, I've given up and I drag the doghouse around with me. I can get a 7/8 double bass and a Super Compact cabinet with amp, etc. into my VW Golf.

Yes, my SuperTwin fits easily into the trunk of my 2014 Camry.

They fit in my Corollas trunk. The Big Twin 3 also fits…

Oh there were some posts with guys at the factory giving the sideeye while putting it on and then they did a poll. However the patchwork tolex won out lol.

I mean, it does have a certain "Silence of the Lambs" vibe but i'm down with it. It looks great in person.

After reading all these forum posts, I think I'm finally going to bite the bullet on a Super Compact or Two10s! But before I order direct, I thought I'd ask the U.S-based residents of this forum if they have any spares that they'd be willing to sell bc I don't think ordering direct will come in time for some shows that I have.

This won't help you with your scheduled shows, but it might help you with the ordering process: Alex has a system for splitting up your payments. It's a "discount" code that knocks a certain amount off the price when you place the order. That gets you in the que. Then you pay the balance when they're ready to begin building.

Speaking for myself, that made it much easier for me to order.

Hey gang,

I'm once again stalling over emptying the bank account a purchasing a big boy from Barefaced (yes, I'm talking about the Eight10). I had a good experience with the former '69er back in the days, though I was not completely fan of the single "hifi/middy" speaker (I believe model close to a Eminence Copperhead?).

Checking the website today, it seems that this is no longer the way Bareface do things. I guess it might be a good thing (for my liking) but how are the new 610/810 different from the previous 69er ?

Yikes, I wish I knew about this. Paid up front March 6th (wasn't too bruised by it thankfully). My BB3 is coming soon I hope...

Was going to suggest a down payment option once it arrives but it seems it's already in place.

I'll ask for the discount code if there's another order for me in the future.
