I had a gig on sat at a venue I've always had trouble with. It's a small wooden stage and although not really boomy it sucks all the low end out. Normally I struggle with my 1212L, even with a gramma pad. Getting the right balance between not boosting the low end too much so it's too loud on stage, but enough to get it felt out front is always a challenge.
On sat I just set up my BB2 in the usual spot and had no issues, and I didn't take the gramma pad either. We could all feel the low end on stage but it didn't mask the mids or top end. I still lost some audible low end off stage but I could still feel it through the dance floor.
At one stage a guy came up to me and said the bass was sounding really nice through the PA, which of course it wasn't going through. As I walked around the room at sound check the bass seemed to sound the same, at least until I went to the back of the room. There didn't seem to be any black spots as far as the bass goes. It's comforting to know that what I hear on stage is more or less what the audience is hearing.

all the reasons why I love my BigTwin2. If I can, I go without pa support, because it sounds so much better..

I find that I always sound better without the pa. More focus, sits in the mix better, feels better. The only challenge is getting clarity in very packed clubs. Then you need a tall stack. Sometimes a tall stack behind you is good because your vocal mic will let a little bleed into the pa. In a good way.

Yeah, that's probably a good idea. Just a guess, but they may be building cabs in batches. This week SCs, next week BB2s, week after One10s, etc. I don't think it would be very efficient to do production in the order that orders were placed. Again, just a guess.

Sure, makes perfect sense. I really (REALLy) wish that I got one of the two BB2's that were just in the classifieds, but both sold right before I contacted the sellers.

I've got a gig this weekend where I really could have used it, and then I've got a bunch starting in early to mid January which is why I say it wouldn't work so well waiting until the end of January.

I have a single Hathor (1203) and would be interested to hear your comparison with the BB2.

I am debating in getting a Thunderchild to pair with the Hathor, however the BB2 is also of interest - not to pair with the Hathor - at least as a single cabinet and to possibly add a second in the future.

Your tonal impressions/comparisons would especially be appreciated.

I'd suggest checking with nostatic about the TC / Hathor stack, since he uses those cabs and has tried that stack. I heard it briefly, and I thought it was nice, but that two Hathors were a better fit. The TC definitely has a bigger and polite/smooth low end.

I'd say as a single cab, the 1203 isn't a fair comparison to the BB2 for output and low end. The Hathor sounds nice, but the BB2 is just a bigger beast. No slam against Duke's cab, but the extra box volume and the 12" driver BF uses is just too much for the Hathor 1203 to keep up with (IME). It will provide much bigger lows and go quite a bit louder, and take more wattage to go even louder than that. I find the BB2 to be a fairly flat sounding cab, as it was designed to be. The crossover is nice, and the mid/high driver sounds very nice. The Hathor has a few more bumps in the EQ and depending on the switch setting can sound more or less voiced. I found I liked it more with the upper mid bite showing through. The BF won't get terribly bite-y sounding even with the crossover all the way up. I've been able to run fuzz and distortion through it with the driver turned up and still get a pleasant sound. Of course, turning it down lets me use even more dirt and still get a useable tone.

Do you have a particular sound or tone goal in your head?

Two Big Baby 2 cabs will be beastly.
