Official Barefaced Bass Cab Club

Another vote for the SC or SC-t over the Super Mini or One10.

The SC's will hold their composure on the low end better if pushed hard.

The One10's are more colored than I like.
I agree the One10 is more colored, but it's a good color that would probably work with soul/blues.

I had 3 of them for a while with a quilter head. Very nice rig. Having 2 of them for a modular setup with a quilter 803 sounds like a nice setup to me.

Thank you all for your comments. For what I understand, the SuperMini could work well for me. I don't think there would be a lot of situations where I would put it at full volume and it should deliver plenty bass.

The 2 One10 stack is appealing, but I think it would be a little more cumbersome moving two cabs instead one (I sometimes have to walk to gigs, not a long distance, but still...)

That makes perfect sense.

Everyone's situation and needs are different.

When I bought my Super Compact, I did hesitate with the Super Mini. I choose the SC because I prefered the sound on the Youtube demo (deeper lows), but now I wonder if I made the right choice, because:
  • Maybe the difference is not so big in the band mix, I would just add more lows on my amp's EQ if I had the SM, and it would be almost identical?
  • I bought a HPF pedal to tame the lowest lows when needed, maybe I wouldn't need this pedal if I had chosen the SM?
  • The SM weights only 1 kg less than the SC but it's smaller and probably much easier to move in public transports
Anyway, I love my SC and I can't try the SM so I don't regret my choice, but if I was in your position today, knowing what I know, I would probably choose the SM like you.

That's the problem: I would drive 100 km if I could try their cabs, but Brighton is a bit further away 😅.

I'm still curious about how much portable the SM is. Sometimes I think it wouldn't matter, sometimes I think I would... Anyone had the chance to compare the portability of the SM against the SC? (and/or with a stack of 2 One10s?)

Here's what two One10 cabs look like, it that helps.

I have a Super Mini and a Super Compact. They sound very similar but the SC definitely has more bass. I had the SM first and never was concerned that it was lacking in bass but when I got the SC the difference was immediately noticeable. They sound best together.

As far as portability goes the SM is significantly smaller and a lot easier to carry around and load in and out but the SC is not difficult at all it is just bulkier and that makes it a bit less comfortable to handle. Either way it's not an issue.

Hey ambler!

That was the comparison I was looking for. I've been talking to Alex and he recommends the SC (mainly because I use flats and he says the extra boomines could sound better with the SC), but I'm still in doubt between the SM and the SC... The SC is a bit heavier and bigger than my current amp, and the SM (while being smaller and lighter) should be way louder than I'll need most of the time.

If you don't mind me asking some more questions:

- When you say the difference with the SC was immediately noticeable, could you describe it what differences did you notice?. Alex told me that I would benefit from the deeper but less thick lows from the SC, but I have trouble understanding what that means😅.

- is that difference noticeable at lower volumes? It's rare I have to put the rumble at max volume, so my reasoning is the SM would never be at maximum volume and it shouldn't sound choked.

- Are there gigs that you are using the SM instead the SC now that you have both?

- And lastly, did you try to EQ the SM so it has a little more bass output? And if so, how did that go?

Hope you don't mind me asking you so many questions😅. I could use the extra portability so I'm a still a bit on the fence about getting the recommended SC

I know it's hard to make a decision, but don't worry, whatever cab you end-up buying, it's going to be great. Slightly easier to move or slightly better/deeper sounding. The Super Compact is not difficult to carry, and the Super Mini doesn't lack low end.

If I were you I would trust Alex, he's knows his stuff. I play with rounds, but I often do palm-muting so I see what he means about the flats+SC association. The Super Compact sounds so good when I do palm-muting, I wouldn't want to miss that sound.

Anyway, thank you for the discussion, it makes my regrets or doubts vanish. ;)

You are right: I'm sure either one would be a big step up from my current amp! But you know how this goes... The doubt is still there😂😅

To be honest, I'm amazed with the cabs most of the people in this thread use. I couldn't use that much volume in a lot of the gigs I play 😅. That's why I think the SM would cover all my volume needs.

Glad my doubts help ease yours🫶

If you go for the SC, think about the SCT—for very little more, you can do FRFR if you ever need it in the future.
Ah, that's another thing: I have some drum machines and synths that I use sometimes with the bass, and it would be nice if I could use the cab to amplify everything. (That's another point for the SM, I think)

The SC with tweeter... I'm not considering it: it weighs more, and I would never use the tweeter playing bass. Thank you for the advice anyway!

If that's the case, then the Barefaced website is confusing... From the SuperMini page:

"The ideal cab for anyone needing full-range accuracy..."

Frequency Range37Hz - 20kHz (where the SuperCompact's is listed as 30Hz - 4 khz)
The original Super Mini had a tweeter (non optional) and the original Super Compact had no tweeter (and you couldn't add one).
Then they've made the tweeter optional for all models, maybe they didn't update the specs accordingly.
I suppose that both the SM and SC go up to 4K without the tweeter and up to 20K with a tweeter.

Both Super Compact and Super Mini use the same 12 inch speaker. How do you think the same speaker would extend to 20khz in one enclosure and 4khz in different enclosure …without a tweeter?

I don't know, but the SuperCompact description mentions the high frequency roll off (and the SuperMini does not mention that).

And also, and more important... How would the SuperMini work as a FRFR cab if its response drops at 4kHz?

If the regular SM (with no tweeter) rolls off at 4kHz then it wouldn't work as a full range flat response, and this should be stated on the website (making clear that if you want a FRFR cab you should go for a SM with a tweeter)
