Wayminit why would anyone even bring up a CNC and Carl or any CT family in the same thread? That’s insanity.

My best guess is that heel block is bocote.

Thank you! I like the knobs too. Very steampunk. Well, if you ever want to let your 5-string go--assuming it's a 36" or 38" scale--I could be persuaded to do a trade with some cash going your way

The heel cap is more Walnut, but of more figured/lighter-colored variety. Just a little small accent for the player to see.

This set was given to me by Brian over at the low end. I still have two sets for my old 38”s but those are four string sets

I’ve owned 7 CTs with a wooden bridge and other than looking really cool and being a pain to setup I haven’t noticed any difference in sound or playability. I’m also insane tho sooooo maybe Aaron or Dave would have better input.

My son has been studying for a COVID-19-delayed New York State bar exam for the last 4 1/2 months and hasn’t touched his Carl’s once during that time. Finally done. Play time is back. The 5er is 1999 and fretless 4 is 2013.

It's definitely a very cool instrument.
I'm impressed with the clarity of the E string.

I'm generally more of a 5 string player and have had many discussions with others who complain about the B string being a little weak (lacking lows and low mids) on some of their 5's.
But usually that means the E is half decent most of the time.
So with this logic, I do remember playing some 4's that had weak E strings but no complaint with the A.
The E on my CT, man....amazing! Super impressed.
