I never received a 10 day card or a call, just the initial post card with an expected completion date. I contacted my sales rep around the due date and asked if he knew if the basses would be done on time or late as expected with the Holidays and all. I was told that one would be ready on one day and the other the following week. Then the basses just showed up. Apparently the tracking numbers are supposed to come straight from UPS, but there are still some issues it seems.

Call your rep!

LB7Player - When I got mine, they were running a week behind cause of the holiday, and their email system was all screwed up. I never got the notification that it had shipped. Luckily, I had called the day after it had shipped... You'll need to call customer service to get your UPS number...

I have a thread looking for 4 stringers with a jazz neck, 17.5mm spacing with a 1.5" nut. Does Carvin offer any? Most basses are 19mm P bass spacing as 4 strings so any other options besides "jazzesque" basses are appreciated!

With all due respect, I believe that's inaccurate.

My B40 has a 5/8"/17mm string spacing. Not 19mm/.75

May be a good idea for Tunaman to contact Carvin and ask them what gthe standard is. I know I didn't ask for any kind of custom string spacing, so it is standard.

Unless they changed it since I ordered my first B40 last spring. And they didn't mention it when I ordered my second B40 a few months ago.

Hmmmm.... Well, they are advertising the "new" locking bridge, and I believe they used to use Hipshot bridges... My brand new (last week) B-50 is .75"...

The old B4s and 5s used Hipshot bridges but the current B40/50s use Carvin's new heavy duty locking bridge also found on the SBs and the Bromberg B24/24S.

I have a B24S and I know its 1.51 at the nut. I don't know what the string spacing is but I can tell you, P bass it's not! She's plenty slim and easy to move around without having that cramped pencil neck, 90s Ibanez SR vibe. I'm not sure, sorta reminds me of the Geddy Lee Fender Jazz neck but I haven't touched a Geddy model in a few years so I'm not 100% on that. I can confirm that a B24 with a tung oil finish neck is about as user-friendly as you can get on a bass.

Maybe the 5-Stringers use a wider string spacing?

Look closely at the tailend corner of the Carvin bridge, closest to the G-string side. You can see how that metal corner comes around to form a sort of "L". The Hipshot does not have that. So you should be able to determine which bridge you have on your basses.

It says in the description that this is a .750", so it is the Hipshot bridge that is the 19mm.75 spacing.

But my Carvin bridge is, on my B40 a 17mm.

Carvin's description and explaination is a bit misleading and vague.

I know, it's strange.

My string spacing is actually just a hair over 5/8 of an inch, but well below .75.

I'm wondering about this, too. Odd.

All I can say is, I love the playability of this B40 and the string spacing is just about perfect for me.

My Fender Precision basses have the 19mm/.75 spacing and I love those, too.

I can manage just fine on my P-basses, as I can on my B40. Basically, I can suck just as well on both string spacings, :D:D I'm flexible that way:D

One of the general descriptions I've read about the old B4 and current B40 necks in terms of width is that they are somewhere between a P and a J bass. But given its flat radius it probably will feel a little strange at first for either P or J players. I doubt it would require much of an adjustment to get used to the B40 neck, especially with that silky tung oil finish.

Should I do this???

For looks more than anything... Never played with a hand guard on, so... Any input would be nice...
