"Official" Carvin Club - Part 2

Cool, I just learned something. The C and B on the D string around 9-10 fret fade to the harmonic at exactly 2 seconds on my bass. The C on the G string at the 5th fret takes 5 seconds before it fades to the harmonic. It shows up on my tuner at those durations. What's the length of time required to qualify for a dead spot?

I don't know if there's an exact measurement of what a dead spot is, all I know is that I couldn't play whole notes in the show I was hired for last week... That disappointed me, but I still love my B-50...

Cool man.

Anyone here have an XB75 ?? I might be going for it. Since, the XB has physically the same dimenions as the LB series basses, I was wondering if it'd be hard to switch from a 34" scale length 5 stringer to a 35 1/4" scale bass? Anyone here done that ?

I switched from 35's to 34's. But, from what I read, the XB's add the extra 1.25 inches in scale by moving the bridge back, not extending the neck. It also has 22 frets instead of 24. My guess is that the frets are proportionally spaced a hair farther apart than the LB.

Personally, I have not felt the need to go 35 w/any of my 5 string Carvins.

vibhas_2310, I have an XB75 that I got in November and I love it. I went from a 34" scale Ibanez GSR200 without a problem. In fact, I didn't play the Ibanez for two months and it felt a little strange going back to it. As I've said before, this bass looks good, feels good and sounds good.

Wow that is beautiful. I am really liking the Icons. They really are beautiful. Unfortunately not in the cards for me. I'm maxed out with the Mrs.

SB5000, 2 Carvin BRX10.2 Neos, a Genz Benz Shuttlemax 12.0, and Victor Wooten's Bass and Nature Camp.

I owe my wife big. :bassist:

If I'm reading this correctly...

Grateful is correct on this... the fret spacing is different and just moving the bridge will cause massive intonation problems... Really, the only notes that would be in tune would be the open strings...
