"Official" Carvin Club - Part 2

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone has tried to fit an Icon bass into a Mono M80 Gig Bag. I'm thinking of picking one up, but just wanted to make sure it would fit. They give dimensions on the Mono website, but the point of reference for the measurement is a little bit ambiguous...

I've got an old LB76 that has been my main bass for the longest. Serial number dates it back to mid to late 90's. It's got the stacked humbuckers in it and the electronics have somewhat become bland over time. (Or maybe they've always been that way and I never really noticed)

It's the best feeling 6 string I've ever played and I'll probably never get rid of it. I've purchased a set of J99's and plan on upgrading the stock preamp to an Audere 4 band. Realistically what can I expect?

You're going to need to make sure the pickup cavities and control cavity are shielded REAL well to help eliminate hum when soloing pickups... And with the Audere pre, expect some sort of FAT Marcus Miller 'ish sound...

It should be slammin'!!

Waiting for my Carvin B50.... It's eating me alive!! Radiation Green, SB headstock, J99's, Balance Control, Cream Pups, Chrome Hardware, Birds Eye fingerboard with Diamond Inlays, and a Truss Rod Cover that has "30yrs" inscribed on it to celebrate my 30th year playing bass...

I want it NOW!!!! ...and I know Santa ain't bringin' it... :(

The only way to really find out is to call Carvin and ask. I don't know if they are doing the elite basses standard anymore. It seems like a lot of the features of the Elite versions got sucked into the Icon basses.

while I'm at it, here are my carvin basses. I'm currently working on an XB75 build, which is taking longer to solidify than I thought it would.

I'm pretty sure Carvin would do an Elite, and I know it would be quite costly. If I recall correctly, an Elite was over $2,000 back when they first introduced it. They are supposed to have a quilted wood truss rod cover, which is not shown on the picture from the Carvin Museum.

Carvin will do a few things that they don't regularly show in their catalog or their web site. They still do Timothy B Schmit bass models for instance, and there are a couple of guitar models that you have to ask for, as well.

I think you're right, with credit card in hand they are more likely.

I would personally love an elite passive fretless but with reverse of the standard wood option. I would go for a walnut center layer, 2 thin laminate layers that are light, like alder or maple, and claro front and back (no show neck), if you catch my drift. I am pretty sure the standard top wood is a AAAAA maple with dark laminates.

Oh well, one can always wish.

I figured as much. I suspect that the Elite model wasn't intended to be around permanently but rather a demostration of what Carvin could do. These instruments were stunning but at over $2,3000 it clearly wasn't suited for the masses. More so when you consider that Carvin can build a beautiful instrument to your specs for $1,000 less than the Elite. Still, what images of the Elite that are still out there are pretty GAS enducing.

Hey, you could always trick out an Anniversity model.

Ordered my first Carvin back in October, and it just happened to arrive December 27th. What a wonderful Christmas gift. There's nothing fancy here, just an LB76 with walnut body wings and a 5 piece neck with stacked humbuckers and low-wide frets.

The sound is very clean and even-toned, with lots of mid-range oomph. Not a dead note on this instrument. I'm sure there will be a fretless LB75 in my future too.
