Plus, it's more of a neutral color. Blue (or any distinct bright color) can really clash with various attire. The charcoal (black) would look great against any attire or stage background. Plus it totally makes the quilt pop out!

I’ve been blessed to own many high end basses from several different builders in price ranges that double my Devons. I mean this as no disrespect to anyone but my these basses beat anything I’ve be blessed to play it own at every level. This bass is the new Gen5 and 34” scale and the B string is as good as any brand you will play. Every note is clear and sings out in. The mix.

I picked up this Gen 5 from Scubaduba a couple weeks ago. For the last few years I have been mostly playing passive Fenders, and I just have to say this thing is a real joy to play! Feels great, sounds great, looks great

I do have a question though. Why go with so many knobs? They seem to clutter up the pretty lines of the bass and might get in the way of a few players right hand technique. Why not consolidate a few into concentric?

You could go with stack knobs and cut down and he offers that option. I like the versatility that he offers with his electronics. The individual gain for each pickup to evenly match series and parallel volume levels and the vintage tone co girl that works in active and passive makes these basses monsters tonally.

Nice score! I've been thinking about one like that except with a Big Rig in the neck position.

Specs are Sapelle top (satin nitro finish) ash body, Indian rosewood fretboard, Nordstrand DC’s, Nordstrand 3 band, series/parallel/single switches, black hardware and a clear and a cream pearloid pickguard. It’s gonna be nice man.

What strings are you using on your Devons? I know Devon ships them with GHS Super Steels with 38” winding. But I’m having trouble finding exact replacement 5 string sets. Thoughts?

Best strings I’ve found and used on all the Devons I’ve owned are DR Pure Blues. You can string through body or use top mount and they last and sound phenomenal.

Personally I like the LaBella RX steels on mine, I find that the balanced tension strings to be far more comfortable for me.

I’ve never tried those. DR Blues are just about stiff enough. Where do the RX steels lie on stiffness?

They feel like they are lower tension than the DR High beams that I’ll use on occasion also. I don’t know if they are really lower tension or if it just feels that way because all the strings are tension balanced. For reference, I have a pretty light touch and am mostly a ramp player.
