Sorry for duplicating a query here...the Sterlings (the real ones) have caught my eye recently, but I had a couple of questions. The second one could also apply to other models:

1. Is there no way to run the Sterlings passive? No bypass?

2. I'm leaning towards the HS version, but I'm curious: for those with the HS or the HH, any reason you went with one over the other? Any regrets?

You can't bypass the electronics unless you pull them out. Right now only the Big Al and 25th Anniversay offer you the flexibility of running passive or active.

HH offers more tone flexibility. The HS has 3 coils where the HH has 4. The HH gives you everything the HS can soundwise plus some.

A few quick questions from me too, I just got an awesome SR5:

1. I have a white pickguard with a white pickup. I want to change to a black pickguard and black pickup cover. Where is the best place to buy those parts?

2. I have the selector switch, how do you remove the knob so I can remove the pickguard?

You can get a black guard and pup cover from EBMM Customer Service. Should cost you about $40 bucks.

You will need a small allen wrench to losen the set screws on the knobs, then just pull up.

The pup cover is a little tricky. First, carefully use an Exacto knife and run around the perimeter to losen the silicone. Then, you need to loosen the two inner most screws from the bottom of the pick-up and the cover should come right off.

Save your white guard and cover. The white pup covers are very hard to find!

Thanks for the quick reply, TD. Looking at their schematics, it looks like on the HS, the coils for the single are smack dab between where they'd be on the humbucker.

I'd be inclined to lean towards the HS, if only because I have no bass with that pickup configuration. Thanks again for your input.

Happy to read what anyone else has to say as well.

Ice Blue and a host of other finishes are to be discontinued. Orders for the following finishes need to be placed immediately if you want a EBMM bass finished in any of the following colours;

1) Egyptian Smoke
2) Graphite Pearl
3) Orange Firemist
4) Electric Blue
5) Olive Gold
6) Cabernet Pearl
7) Ice Blue
8) True gold

New replacement finishes will be announced shortly according to EBMM customer service.

Seriously? I really want an olive gold bass. Damn, I have enough in savings, I just am not working right now. I would look pretty stupid
A) selling my 93 5 string with the best neck on any ray I have ever played.
B) ordering a pretty bass and ending up homeless before its done.


Well I could always be a day laborer.

There is a big hole for the electronics, so a 4 string guard will not work.
Only if you have a 20th anniverary model, as they are rear routed, so you can make any guard you like for the front. Or if you have a SR5 SUB

I love mySR5 HS and picked it over the HH.
I am considering adding another H to my SR5 H , but closer to the bridge than the HH...to be in more of a P range
