How to the controls work on the basses:

On the SR5, the bass, midrange, & treble have center detents for flat, clockwise from center is boost and counter-clockwise from center is cut.

Very nice! Does the Nordy have an Alnico magnet like the Stingrays? Also, I like the GK Schroeder pairing.

Yep - they're Alnico magnets, very punchy and aggressive sounding. I've had the GK head for about a year now and previously used it with an Epifani UL310 until I got the Schroeder about 3 weeks ago.
It's a really good pairing IMO - loud, clean and I can hear myself a lot better on stage. The only problem is it weighs a bloody ton - too much for my ageing back to carry it alone.

Does Nordy make an Alnico replacement for the SR5? That is the only thing holding me back on the SR5. The Ray tone to me is nirvanna, but the SR5's just don't cop that tone. Having said that, the SR5 tone is not bad, its just different which I know is not a new revelation.

I've played a 5 with a Nordstrand and a Status graphite neck -a sublime instrument that belongs to 'obbm' who I think posts on here occasionally.

Did you find it to sound more like a Ray? I know the pre-amps may not be similar so maybe not?

To be honest, it was difficult to tell because there were about 20 other bassists playing away at the same time but i would say it sounded like a 5er (rather than a 4) but with a bit more 'bite' and clarity - probably a lot to do with the graphite neck.
