pic 1.jpg just got it today. can anyone give a guess on what year this is.

Sorry I'm not in the club nor do I own an EBMM although I must say the SR and active SUB is very nice whenever I have tried them.

May I ask what are the differences between a Stingray and a Sterling? Thanks in advance.

The electronics are slightly different, and the neck shape is different. Also the 4-string Sterling has coil selector switch, which on the 5-string StingRay has.

That red SR5 is hot! It's the same color as my SR5 HH, and you have the same pickguard as mine too. The only difference is that mine has black pickup covers.

Hi, all! I bought this puppy from Mental Octopus a month or so ago, and I'm loving it. I put a white pearl pickguard on it, the black on super-dark-blue thing wasn't working for me. I'll take some pics at some point and post 'em up here.

My EBMM story:

I have been mostly a Jazz Bass guy for a long time. First bass was a Japanese Jazz copy with a dead bridge pickup (sweet bass but long gone now,) and then I made some basses with Warmoth stuff, etc. Got a '75 Precision with a DiMarzio Model P and was a P guy from there on out. Got out of bass playing for a while (switched to guitar and keys,) but then got back into it this year. I found an OLP Stingray copy at a pawn shop for a good price and bought it.

I initally bought the OLP because I had never really played a 'Ray, not in a band situation at least. When I figured out that the controls were volume, volume, tone instead of volume, treble, bass like on a real 'Ray I was a bit disappointed. Then I figured out I could rewire the pickup in series or parallel, and I went for it. The sound of a MM type pickup in series is awesome! (SR5 and Sterling owners know what I'm talking about.)

I decided I wanted to get a REAL 'Ray, and found a great deal on a SUB here on TB. Got the SUB, loved it, but fell out of love with the neck width / profile. The sound was what I wanted, but there was no way to get the series / parallel thing unless I dropped in a Sterling or other 3-coil MM pickup. It also had a rosewood board, and I wanted maple.

I found Mental Octopus' Sterling, and it had everything I wanted: maple neck, switching pickup, active preamp, etc. Got it and LOVE IT.

So if I can still join the club, count me in!
