Man, after almost half a year I have been trying not to say anything about these new models from Rob. Here is a blog that he wrote on his myspace about them and the pics he posted. Although these will be made oveseas, I assure you they are nothing like the Cort models!



Like so many American jazz icons before it, the Elrick New Jazz Standard is moving to Europe!

The Expat New Jazz Standard will be available soon. Available in 34" scale 4-string and 35" scale 5-string, the design and ergonomics of the Expat NJS have been completely refined, while retaining the familiar silhouette that has, for over 10 years, made the NJS immediately recognizable.

The Expat NJS is distinguished from US Elrick Basses as they feature an option that has always been difficult for me to provide, lacquer finishes! Though they are rarely requested, nearly 100% of the requests I receive are for NJS basses. Because I do not have a paint shop (and still have no plans for one) paint jobs have always been outsourced, in the US it is an expensive option ($800 or more list) that also extends production lead time by 2-3 times.

Lacquer finishes are a standard feature on all Expat NJS basses. The Expat NJS also features all the same US made Hipshot hardware, Bartolini pickups / 3-band pre-amp and Elrick Strings used on US model Elrick Basses. Zero Gravity cases are also included (as with all US models) and even the swamp ash lumber for bodies is hand selected and supplied by me! All Expats will be distributed directly by Elrick Bass Guitars where I am responsible for all final instrument inspection and set up.

The care taken in the re-design, material selection / supply and the excellent quality of workmanship at our partner factory in the Czech Republic, ensure that the Expat NJS will be a fine addition to the Elrick Bass Guitars catalog and a great success for years to come, no passport required!

But seriously, if you don't have a passport, get one...

I have posted photos of my pre-production Expat NJS prototype 5-string, it is not a production Expat, just a preview. Photos of the actual production prototypes are coming soon, stay tuned...

I just read through the May issue of Bass Player Magazine. IN the readers polls it listed the top best bass's for over $1500. I was shocked the Elrick didn't make it. What gives!:confused: The list included some basses that I wouldnt have put in there as the best, but that is just my opinion.
I just had to vent that out a little bit.

Bassists who rely solely on Bass Player for information simply don't have the insight that we TBers possess. This also applies to to BP product reviews.

Mr. Majestic, like you , I am awaiting the delivery of my new Classic 6 string on tomorrow and I can hardly sleep, I have ordered a Tasmanian Rose Myrtle top with a Wenge Neck and Fretboard with Bartolini soapbar pickups. If you are feeling the way that I felt in early feb. of 2008 when I ordered mine , rest assured that you will most likely receive yours right on schedule or earlier. I ordered mine on Feb 21, and tomorrow will be the 19th, do the math and hang in there buddy. I will send a picture as soon as possible. Chosen One:hyper:

That's an e-volution JJ model. No switches and a plastic cover. It's basically a budget model Elrick (before dropping to the Cort line), although getting a bolt-on or NJS with no options is a little cheaper.

It seems as though I have been speaking to Rob on a daily basis for the last two weeks, but I do have an ETA on my Classic 5. Hopefully mid to late August.
I have several club numbers I need to give out, I just have to find time to pull them all together.


That is a very interesting E-volution 4. Was that built shortly after the Cort fiasco?

I'm just jonesing for another Elrick again- I've had just the one for half a year now. Within two months I'll be getting one- problem is is that it'll probably be a custom, which will take another 4-6 months to build.

There is no chance that the ash in your bass came from me, not directly anyway. I can tell you that it came from the same mill, though.

Getting back to the Elrick Evo listed on Ebay, Rob sent this follow-up email about it.

"It was a model that we offered for a couple of years that was a "one price, no options" bolt-on that was intended to be a faster turn around item because the idea was that we could reliably stock parts. Big surprise, dealers and customers wanted options, so after a couple years of lackluster enthusiasm for the concept it was dumped from my catalog. They're fine basses, just a few different cosmetic features. Switches are push pull like on the new Expat NJS basses"
