Well fellow Elrickites, I can proudly say that on yesterday I became the proud owner of a brand new baby boy/Classic 6 string-Tasmanian Rose Myrtle top and wenge/wenge neck& fretboard. And like every healthy boy or girl, after delivery, when slapped by the Dr., cries loudly as my new baby did.LOL!!!!!! When I get a little time I will post the photos, and I can say that Rob has outdone himself in making the vision in my mind come to life in such an excellent way:) I do have one question that I'd like to ask. When using a head that can receive both active and passive inputs, and setting that heads control on active, which way should the active/passive control on the bass be set (up or down)? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Active is when the switch is pointed towards the controls (at least on all of mine that I've had). There's one really easy way to figure it out for yourself though- the EQ won't work when in passive mode, so whichever way the switch is that nullifies the EQ, that way is passive :p

Yes, this bass was custom ordered back in february, I was kind of unsure about ordering this type of top because it has some pink in it, and I feared that it would appear to be a little girlish, but after talking to Rob and the guys at Bass Emporium, (oh yeah) I can't forget my wifes input, I decided to go with the tas top. I'll try to post more pix with better lighting to really show the detail of Rob's fine craftmanship.:bassist:

The only problem with the original "hyperelrick" was that I kept missing a fifth string, even with all the detuners. I don't think it would be possible to have a five-string made to have them all unless the headstock was REALLY big- the headstock for the four was big enough already :D

For a custom it would be either a six-string fretted or a five-string fretless- either would have a shorter scale (34" or possible 33") and a tighter string spacing (17.5 or so). I loved my e-volution six, but it did feel a bit big on my short frame- mostly due to the string spacing I think. I'm even thinking about bolt-ons; I love the looks of the singlecuts, but the upper fret access on the bolt-ons is so nice, and they're a good deal cheaper.

Who knows though.

My bolt-on has a bit more punch compared to my other neck-thru's. It's a good way to go. When I get enough scratch together, I'm going with a barebones singlecut. Ash body, no top, Maple neck, Birdseye fb. If I could afford a top, I'm thinking that sweet holly might be nice -- the polar opposite of my walnut bass.

Larry is such a nice guy. He always speaks about things that are at least ten feet over my head, but usually I always leave smarter. I went with the bart. soapbars on mine, just in case I ever wanted to upgrade to the AERO's later.
Rob makes wooden covers for all of his basses that have them. He glues up the small pieces, then ships them to Larry who mills them out and ships them back for Rob to finish shaping and fitted in the basses.

i have active barts in my 6, so i am going to have active aeros in my 6 and then passive aeros in my 4.

i spoke with larry about 2 weeks ago over the phone and he told me rob had ordered my aeros so i am sure my single cut will be here shortly. i cant wait any longer the suspense is killing me.

Beautiful Elricks!!

They are such a dichotomy to me, the 4-strings are the most beautiful looking exotic 4's on the market but I find the big nut width and neck profile (along with the zero fret) kinda off-putting...not to mention the 35" (though I have been seeing more and more 34"s).

I guess my Elrick would be a custom with jazz bass type neck specs...
