kurotenshi said:Hey guys, I don't want to create a new topic over such a specific thing, does anyone here have modded one of the basswood LTD basses? I'm very disapointed with the sound of my AX-104 and wanted to know if putting some EMG's on it would do the trick or is just a waste of money.
If someone had done this pleese PM me so we can talk. Thanks

I've got the B-105 that runs the same family of pickups and enjoy the sound. What's the rest of your rig like? I figured that I'd be better off putting money into that as I've got a few other instruments that run out of it. Pedals and amps.

In my old metal band, using a Behringer Bass V-Amp Pro, it used to be usable since one of the guitar players incisted in having to much bass diled in. Now I'm in a cover band where there is only one guitar and he a more sencible guy so I have more bottom to fill and my Yamaha does that well. The thing is we are working in some more djent like originals and the yama just doesn't have the tone for that, or the playabillity. The LTD has the playability but the sound just lacks bottom and punch. I crank the EQ to compensate and it just gets muddy.
Fair enough. There are so many variables for these kinds of things. I really hate to assume, but the muddiness may be due simply to the fact that you're boosting the low EQ. Perhaps try boosting the kids and low-mids? Those are the frequencies that will fill the space and help you to stand out. Let me know if I'm being presumptuous.

Bass +/-15dB @ 100Hz shelving
Lo-Mid +/-15dB Frequency 180Hz to 1.6kHz Q = 1 Octave
Hi-Mid +/-15dB Frequency 750Hz to 7.5kHz Q = 1 Octave
Treble +/-15dB Frequency 3.5kHz to 10kHz shelving
Deep +15dB @ 50Hz
Shape +8dB @ 30Hz & 10kHz -12dB @ 400Hz
gess i'll try some more...

I currently have two 4-string basses, but have run into some songs I'm learning that could be more easily played on a 5-string. Just in case I find a 5-string to be incompatible with me, I don't want to spend too much.
I have a chance to pick up a used B-55 for about half of what it is selling for new. I don't expect the 'B' string to be perfectly balanced with the others on a guitar in this price range, but I don't want something that is way out in left field either.
My question is: Is it worth getting into a fiver at this level, or am I throwing my money away, even if it's only $120 CAD? Before I make my decision, I will, of course, try it out, but I want to get a feel for whether I should even bother contacting the seller.
Any owners out there with any feedback?
Thanks!
