Just realized I haven't posted pics to this thread of my early-80s ESP, so here goes:
Headstock detail:
Original tuners - these are fantastic, tuner tension is adjustable with an allen wrench and after 27 years still work perfectly.
Neck plate with fairly low serial #
I bought this used in February 1987 and it was my main bass - actually for many, many years it was my only bass. I will never sell this one. It has been modified with a Badass bridge and now has a Seymour Duncan Quarter-Pounder pickup in it, but I have all the original parts.

Well, I have been so happy with my B-1005 and Surveyor-4 that I broke down and bought a "now" discontinued B-4Z (zebrawood) on clearance.
Should be here next week. Can't wait!

Grats! Interesting nut width on those. Halfway between a P and Jazz.

Yeah little wider than a Jazz. Almost exactly the same as my Squier fretless P.
This is a good thing for me, I think the 1.49" nut on my Surveyor is a touch on the narrow side, but I can work with it.
It's interesting to see the B4 and B5 basses nut width is 2mm narrower than the B-1004 and 1005, but the B6 nuts are the same. Wonder why they did that....
Also did you get the Bart on your 214 squared away?

No. I'm taking it to a Luthier. There was wires crossed and I tried to fix it but did it the wrong way. Then, that just got me in even deeper when I tried to fix it again. He's only going to charge me 40 bucks anyway, so I guess it's okay. Live and learn. I may buy pots and wires just to experiment with practicing and making the layout.
Discontinued? That's too bad. Mine plays and sounds fantastic, and I haven't even considered getting a more expensive bass since I bought it. Ridiculous value.

On the website, the B series has been trimmed way back. Both the Bubinga and Zebrawood basses are gone. Leaving only the ebony version.
There are no longer any B-41X spalted basses either.
The B-334/335 are gone as well.
The B-2 spalted basses are still there but overall the B-series has taken a hit.
Several of the lower B models are gone as well.

Also, I'm really on the fence about the RB basses replacing the B-1004/5/6 line. These changes mean the B-4/5E is the only neckthrough LTD b series bass left.
Can you ballpark how heavy your B-4Z is? I have seen the one pic in this thread, have you posted others?

Oh well, I'm sure the B-4E is equally nice. I'm a big fan of zebrawood, though.
I would say about 9 pounds, but I'm terrible at estimating weight so don't take my word for it.
I'd think it would be just slightly lighter than your B-1005.

Got my new B-4Z (Zebrawood) on clearance from Crazy Dave's in Orange Park, Fl (when I write this, they have 1 left)
It's exactly what I hoped it would be, a less expensive version of my B-1005 with four strings. It weighs 9lbs.
I'm really happy with the ESP pickups and preamp, but have ordered a set of Hipshots (which should arrive today) as the original tuners seem a little floppy to me.
I will do a more in-depth look later but I will say that if you're sitting on the fence these are a great value.

BTW - I overheated some of the pots while I was soldering. It turns out that I did have it wired correctly.The luthier is going to replace the pots, and rewire it for me clean, as well as a set up for 75 bucks. Live and learn.

My ESP Ltd Elite J-5 arrived yesterday. It's my first ESP, but I'm certainly impressed by the level of quality this sucker has. It only furthers my love for CIJ basses. The active Seymour Duncan's are responsive as hell, and the tonal options are vast. It outplays the Fender American Standard 5 string I tested out before the ESP. Fit and finish was better than expected outta the box, with only light tweaking to the bridge and truss rod necessary. Slim neck, lightly finished with nitro. Feels good, man.

Anybody know where I can locate string spacing specs for ESP Vintage 214? I am loving my 214 SO MUCH (fixed and amazing BTW Bobster, pics and clips to come) that I think I'm going to get the 5 string jazz version. I'm trying to compare this to this:

I think the J 205 could be smaller in the spacing, but I'm not sure. I love it the way it is now though on my 214 and want to see how close it is...Why don't manufactures post this info? I don't see anything on the ESP site anywhere.
