I'll join the club. ESP Horizion with EMG pickups. This is one bass that I will never sell.

I picked up a B-50 just as a backup but after yanking out the electronics and putting a Quarter Pound set it's my main ride now. ESP has definitely found a new customer.

I'm thinking of change the pickups too. Are you using the factory preamp and pots?

My F-4E is my main ride these days. Love the neck, the looks, and the 35" scale. The stock pups are surprisingly solid, though there's room for improvement.

Nope. I went with new pots and skipped the preamp. Not because there's anything wrong with the preamp. I just have an inherent distrust of batteries so I skipped it.

Plus with QPs, I don't think they need anything extra.

Standard Jazz width I believe 1.5" (38mm)

STRINGS???

Guys, I just got a new ESP LTD RB-1005 for evaluation. I am not happy with the tone so far, and I was looking at replacing the strings as part of the process. The factory literature does not say what strings come on it. My other basses are Fenders so what I like on them make not work so well on this bass. So, if I want to get a good set of strings matched to this bass, what brand, style and size do you suggest? I am looking for balanced and clear tone, high to low, rather than maximum volume and punch from the instrument. Thanks.

Did you just figure this out, or was it somewhere on the ESP website or in the literature? Not saying you are wrong, I just want to know how you got the answer. The folks at my retailer did not know for sure. Thanks.

P.S. Also, I know Cleartones are pretty inexpensive. Did you like the sound of them on your ESP bass?

I first read it in this thread a while back I think, but when I bought my bass and subbed to their FB page, I remember reading it from one of their posts also. They have a pretty good rep evidently.

Yeah, I did. They felt good too. I didn't feel the need to replace them if that helps.

Different strings are on it now but only cause I get them free.
