Official ESP club

Good morning ESP/LTD Gents,

I've had my LTD B-4E for about 2 years now and my LTD B-204SMFL for about 1 1/2 yrs and I love them both. That spalted maple on the fretless B-204SMFL is great looking and I get lots of compliments. The B-4E is the first neck/string through I've had and she does sustain and sounds great, not to mention the woods that make her stand out as well. Do I qualify to become a member?

Mine is currently gloss black with white pickguard but I'm changing the pickguard to black/white/black sandwich. Maple fretboard and neck. There is no relicing.
I don't have any other LTDs but I'd like to find a set of the stock pickups from a 214 to put on another bass with a slim neck. It may not sound as good - the thick neck may be part of the sound, but there's only one way to find out. I've read where some people change out the pickups to something else so there should be a few of the original ones around somewhere not being used.

This is a stock photo, but it's what mine looks like.

Nice Vintage 214 PDGood,

I've actually started looking at P-Bass styles lately.
I hadn't thought about LTD making them.
Does it play OK though?

Yes.
They play well and I think you'd like it if you're OK with the P width neck. It is thinner than a P (from front to back), but same width at the nut.

Frets ends are nice and smooth.

Where it separates from the pack of P copies is the tone. It gets a wonderful P and J tone and is more growly than most basses with this configuration. A lot of folks buy them expecting to upgrade the pickups but I'm one of those that are really into these pickups and think they don't need to be upgraded.

Welcome, Gee Phil! I love the way some of those ESPs growl, so definitely a trait among their PJ basses, though mine has EMGs. You might want to consider those, though you'd have to convert the electronics to active, so probably more trouble than it's worth.

Thank you ArvindJayaram,

I hadn't really considered the P bass style at one time but during the past month I've been looking at that. And after reading the info here on TB from fellow ESP/LTD members, I will now seriousl;y start looking at the LTD versions as well. Now if only I could get my hands on one to try out. By the way. did you assign me a member number?

Phil
