Good one! I personally wouldn't spend more than 2500 Euro (3109 US Dollar) on a single bass guitar. Even with that, I prefer stayin below 1500 euro (1865 US Dollar). It's mainly so I can save some extra money on other stuff like a new amp or whatsoever.
Expensive basses are great if you have the money to spend, but I'm nowhere near that market. As a result, I've learned how to look for the gems in the low price category. My LTD is one of those.
The most I've spent on a bass is around $650 and wound up selling it because I wasn't nearly as happy with it as with some of the less expensive ones. My avatar was $425 (used) and the one I play the most cost $199 used. I choose them carefully - I'm fussy about the straightness of the neck and how they sound. Little things like upgrading the wiring or having fret ends filed are inexpensive fixes and ultimately I'm totally happy with the result with a minimal investment. This allows me to buy more and have a versatile tonal range available. I'd have to make a lot more money than I make now to even consider the $2,000 range. I can't comprehend $13,000 but they're not marketing that bass with people like me in mind.

So I'm really close to buying an ltd b-1004 bass. I like all the specs but I've heard the string spacing at the bridge is narrow. I'm a heavy downpicker and need a lot of space between the strings, at least the spacing of a p-bass. Are the string spacing narrow? Does the bridge on the ltd b-1004 allow me to adjust the string spacing? Thanks
I'm the proud owner of an ESP LTD B-4E. I have not had the opportunity to play many different basses, but I'm very pleased with the way mine sounds. She's a real pleasure to play. I think it is cool that ESP has a sight of it's own.

I don't have the exact specs in front of me, but I'm pretty sure the B-1004 is 19mm. I have a B-1005 and it's 17mm at the bridge. Because of the neck's width, I haven't had much of a problem and yes, the Hipshot A bridge has some adjustment for spacing.
I'm very happy with mine and hope you are as well.

Yes, typically they are. If you want wide, you can buy a 5 string, swap out the nut and bridge to a four (and pickups if they are not bar magnets) and you can have yourself a super wide neck.
That is a very interesting idea. But if bob is right and the string spacing is 19mm with adjustable bridge for the string spacing, i think i should be good. But i like your idea, i wouldnt have to stress about finding wide string spacing
Sorry, I just thought that was what you were thinking when you asked about 5s. If you're just looking to buy a 5 to play as is, they vary a great deal in width since some people want them to have a feel like a guitar and others what the same spacing as a 4 string.

Man - I've been heavily favoring my Ray34 recently. Last night I was invited to go jam with a drummer in his garage. He had an old 50 watt Fender tube bass amp from the 70's so I opted to bring a passive bass to match with the amp.
MAN, I felt at home on my ESP Vintage 214 right away. Made me think...why am I not playing this more? I don't know anyone else who has neck finishes as smooth as ESP. So nice. So easy to play, in fact, easier than my MIA P. Why do I have so many basses again?

I'm looking for a set of pickups from an LTD 214. I know a lot of folks change these out to EMGs or other brands but I like the originals. If anybody on here has swapped theirs out and have the original set, drop me a note and we'll talk price.
I just found this thread after searching for info on a LTD B104. I'm lefty and may have the opportunity to pick up a B104 used for a great price. The reviews and opinions of the bass seem to be fantastic for the price. I am a lefty and finding lefty basses are difficult. The seller of the bass is a guy who tried to play and lost interest, so he is ready to sell.
My only reservations about buying this bass is the fact that I already own a 4 string Spector Rebop with EMG DC's and an EMG preamp and in comparison, the LTD seems very similar in tone to the Spector minus the signature Spector growl. I like the LTD and thought the bass would be a bit redundant if you will in my collection. I do like the LTD build quality and most of all, it's price. The Spector has monster tone and more balls than the LTD, but I was thinking that in time, I could swap a set of EMG CS pickups and a different pre into the LTD to make it custom. I modded the Spector myself and thought to do the same with the LTD.

That ESP Stream bass is beautiful! I wish I had $13,000, though I do think that the minute it's bought, the fair value is likely to be in the range of $3000-4000, i.e. still a bit more than I'd feel comfortable paying for a bass, especially something that I'd be scared to gig with.
@tastybasslines: I hear you. I found that I had too many guitars that weren't getting any playtime. I've been offloading them one by one and just keeping the ones that I can't do without.

I don't see why you couldn't do that. The Spector growl is likely to be the EMGs pups and preamp. I have EMGs in my bass, but some sort of Jett circuit as preamp instead. Works beautiful and growls like a tiger.
