So I did it.

A couple of years ago I bought an F-5E, and although it was pretty I sold it last year because it played and sounded bad. Now I'm starting to think that was just because it was a Made in China bass, because every other LTD I've tried in that price range has felt great (all made in Indonesia), and I see that now the F-5E's are being made in Indonesia too. It seems crazy but I'm seriously considering getting another new one and upgrading the pickups, which I could do for the same price as an Ibanez SR premium (my other option).

Has anyone tried putting Nordstrands or Bartolinis in an LTD?

Well I certainly dig it! I went a little further and sanded off the finish and the LTD decal. It's a very thin logo on it. I figured since mine no longer looks anything like an LTD, no "point" in leaving it on there.

It might just be me but I've noticed I seem to receive much better quality stuff from Indonesia and Korea. I've tried a lot of import stuff and thats what I have personally experienced.

Barts or Nordies would be fine in a LTD. I have Aguilars in mine above and it the bass I usually reach for when noodling in front of the computer.

thanks and Oh, thats punny..... I didn't want to do all that work. PLus I want it to match the body. The top on my RB1005 is at least 1/4" And I'm happy with how it looks. Your bass was certainly my inspiration so thank you.

I put Seymour Duncan NYC Phase II's in mine. My LTD has an ash body and was really bright. The NYC's really warmed it up a lot, and that's even leaving it hooked up to the stock preamp. I think the LTD logo is a waterslide decal that was applied after several coats of finish and before the final coats. I sanded through the finish and the LTD logo and never touched the spalted maple headstock face. There was still finish left under the decal.

I'm thinking the Nord Big Singles would be a good match. The one I used had sort of a dark sound if I'm remembering correctly.

Are the RB1005's meant to come with a special truss rod tool? setting up a friends but he's lost the tools already, the allen wrench for my B1005 fits but there's not enough room to turn it enough before the headstock gets in the way, almost like the tool needs to be longer to clear it.

I don't have any problems using a standard wrench on mine. I do usually have to loosen the A string. But otherwise seems normal to me.

Howdy!

No pics (as of yet), but I'm a happy owner of a ESP LTD Vintage 204 P/J type bass - the "road worn," black model.

Perfect for me in my limited abilities, the only thing I'm going to change is to put a tortise-shell colored pickguard on it at some point in the near future.

I'm impressed with the brand and would not hesitate to pick up something else from them on down the road; a Les Paul style bass would certainly be the bee's knees for me, honestly.
