Official Eventide (H9/Factor Series) Settings Thread!!!

Mine came in this week, need to spend some more time with the new algos, but as a phaser junky, I always thought the ModFactor phaser algorithm in the H9 was a weak point, but so far am liking the Instant Phaser.

@Adamixoye , I compared the Drop to the H90 Polyphany algorithm on my Strat and really can't tell the difference in an A/B shootout. Had to adjust some settings to make it match, but it would be a very good replacement to the drop IMO. It does have many more key adjustments both up and down so is not as limiting as the drop. If anything it is a testament to how good the Drop is considering it is a (almost) 10 year old technology.

Cool, thanks for the report. Did you try the different modes, one of them is called "percussive" and I forget the other one? The manual indicated that "percussive" was best for small changes and the other mode is better for bigger changes.

The modes are Pitched and Percussive. Pitched is a bit of mess and may be intended to use with some of the other settings detune and delays. Percussive is really the one for alternate tunings and works quite well. It is likely that the example in the live demo was set to Pitched and why I thought it had a big impact on the color of the tone. No such tone coloring (at least compared to the Drop) when set to Percussive.

I love the H9 - the best pedal ever made in my opinion and still using it at every gig - and the H90 seems to be a great update. Too expensive in Europe - for me(!) right now.
Just watched a tiny desk concert at YT yesterday with Horace Andy. Adrian Sherwood sits there on a small desk with a H9 on top of it, doing the dub effects:)



The thing I like the most about the H9 is the iOS control software. It makes the algorithms much more transparent. I hardly ever touched the hardware. Is there just PC and Mac software for the H90 and it can't be controlled with an iPad or smartphone? This would be a huge disadvantage. In case I can afford it later, I don't want to put a notebook in my bass-gigbag.

I'm really happy to hear that. Thanks. It is interesting what they said about using pitched for more extreme tunings, but your results make sense. Mine is on backorder with Musician's Friend --- going to be my Christmas present. Going to go down to the wire, LOL.

So what Eventide is saying, as I understand it, is that the desktop editor is here for now, and an app for iOS (IDK about Android, they have both for the H9) will come later. Their justification is that the H90 display is much more detailed and navigable than the H9, which seems reasonable based on the demos I've seen.

That would be nice. I hate notebooks around me, when I'm making music or have a gig, but I love to have an iPad on a mic stand or use my smartphone, when I'm at rehearsals.
I don't blame Eventide for the high price, but I think it will be hard to sell a pedal at that price in the current situation in Europe. Only few will pay 800,- or 900,- for a pedal - as good as it might be, but if the quality is so convincing as it is in the case of the H9, some are doing it. But way over 1.000,- is out of reach for many, they might not even look at it or consider it.

I don't want to speak for anyone else's budget, and I totally get the reticence when a pedal gets over a few hundred, much less approaching 4 digits. However, for me, I believe this is a direct replacement for my two H9s plus my Digitech Drop. To buy those pedals new I believe would be more than $900 US; they certainly were at original prices. I can probably sell them used for most of that. I don't know if I will get rid of those pedals or not. If I was more worried about cash flow I would sell them and come out close to even as a no-brainer upgrade for me.

My H9 arrived today! Wow, what a piece of gear! I'll be a while learning it...
One question - I found the "bypass" settings as a way to keep the tail of an effect going after it shuts off - but can you configure the length of the tail? I don't yet see how.
In this case I have a use for "Cigaroos" for a song intro. I'd like to keep some tail going but that one goes on and on and one...

Another question for you long time users - how would you suggest best getting to know this pedal? I can imagine stepping through all 99 presets but of course there have to be better ways...

The lenght of the tail can’t be changed it is determined by the settings of the effect, delay feedback for example. If you want it shorter reduce the feedback.

As for getting to know the pedal. Check out each algo (not the presets) one by one. Change the parameters/knobs in the effect and listen what each of them does. It’s fun. Good luck!

I found the C4 less intimidating, in part because it had fewer presets (I got one early on) and I grokked the "try the big library of presets and find stuff that you like or is close"
And in my funk band I use a bunch of the filter sounds and the octaves for EDM vibes. I expect there's overlap between the H9 and the C4 especially with the octave possibilities.

I haven't even scratched the surface of using them together yet. Still getting to know the H9. In particular I'm working up the very spacey ethereal intro for one of our tunes - with the H9 I don't have to have the keyboard player do it. :D So today I'm exploring the Blackhole and Crystals algorithms.

I use my h9 almost exclusively as a pitch factor. It’s absolutely killer with the C4.
