Hi guys! I'd like to ask you all Fernandes owners...
In going to buy a new bass but at my local store they only have an Atlas 5X, Squier Jazz Bass VM 5strings and a Yamaha TRBX 5 strings...
Now I only played the squier and fernandes... and I think both of them have good sound, the squier being more versatile, but the fernandez being louder I gues because of the humbucker...
Now, aestheticaly Ferndandes won for a mile... I wanted the Squier at first but after seeing it... man.. it looks really cheap for what I'm paying for... fret buz and the plastic nut looked terrible... the Fernandes being more minimalis (couldn't think of another word to describe it), looked more solid to my eyes... no finis flaws at all like the squier...
The thing is... guy at store told me the squier was better... even on the internet I've been reading how it is the best bass for the price...
So what can you guys tell me about it?
Is the Atlas 5X better than the Squier Jazz Bass? if you can give me your opinions that would be great!

Btw, what I'd like to play goes from bluesy tone to rock, or metal (Having Martin Mendez from Opeth in mind) and I'd like to achieve good jazzy tones!

This is probably one of the cleanest APB5's out there. I installed Hipshots but everything else remains stock. IIRC, the blend works backwards like a Sadowsky harness. Not a huge fan of the slightly narrower spacing but I'm hard-pressed to let her go as I doubt if I can find anything near the quality for the $500 I have invested. Aside from dulling of the pickup logos, it looks like it came right out of the box.

) She's near mint, sounds and looks the part, sets up nice and low, and is right under 9lbs. What's not to love!?
From what I've learned, this Fernandes Limited Edition is a lawsuit copy from the early 80's. The neck is really nice! The fretwork on these old MIJ basses is top notch.
It's hard to capture the true color in the photos, but it looks a little more yellow, kind of like a vintage white/cream. Anyway, I'm stoked, enjoy the pics!

just got this used today. any ideas what this is? plays and sounds great. better than my american special p bass, which i'll probably unload once i can bring this home.
Was looking to get the signature Tremor 5 from one of my favorites, Tony Campos.
Having difficulty finding the difference between the 5x and the Deluxe. I'm a little short on cash, was hoping the only difference between the two is the pickups and not the woods or construction. Any info is appreciated.

Question for those of you with APB 4's or 5's. I've noticed the preamp output is significantly lower than any other bass in the stable. I took a look at the preamp board (not much bigger than 2 postage stamps) and there's no trim pot that I can see. Am I missing something or have any of you experienced the same? Even with the lower output, it sounds really nice!

Deluxe looks like significant upgrade to me: neck-thru, active pups w/pre, better nut. Both are alder. Different necks.

I picked up the bass used at a relative bargain price (compared to the 1,100 they were when they hit the market years ago) with some wear and marks, since it was going to be a refin anyway. It was another fun project in paint and finishing, and tonally sounds almost identical to the Tremor Deluxes I've owned (go figure... same electronics and pickups).
Seeing the picture in mega-monster size just reminded me that the trussrod cover is in a spare-parts bin in my music room!

I have my eyes on an active MIJ 5 string Fretless Fernandes, not certain of the model.
Anyone have an opinion as to value? I might be able to pick it up for around $300.

It took me about three years, but I finally did it. I now have a JSB-70 to go along with my regular bass. Now I just need those pickup screws to arrive. The wait is killing me.
Hi. Can anyone tell me what size Allen wrench I would use to adjust truss rod nut on MIJ Gravity 6?
Serial number 035278.
My APB is coming in at 5.5 mm. You might have to lop off some portion of the short arm to cleanly fit the truss rod access.

Thank you, Riis! I will try 5.5 mm. I know where you are coming from--had to put an Allen wrench on my grinder in order to reach the truss rod nut at the bass of the neck in a Yamaha TRB.
My Fernandes Gravity 6 truss rod nut seems to take a 5 mm Allen wrench. Does anyone else find that their Fernandes uses a 5.5 mm (or other size) Allen wrench?
