Hi, I'm new to this forum and found it when I was searching for more information about my Fernandes Bass.
Nice to see that I'm not the only one who loves it
This is my Bass, I bought it second hand about a year ago and it has been used a lot but it is in good condition.
I am still not sure what type it is, there is no serial number or type indication anywhere..

That's what it is...I have two of 'em. Your's is an earlier version as highlighted by the faux roller bridge. Here's a body shot:

Don't know the model year but they sported paper stickers on the headstock reverse with the serial #. My newer APB-5 has it stamped in the wood itself. Could indeed be a Gotoh bridge but the rollers are not rollers. They actually slide back and forth on a squared-off rod and are secured by a forward-facing hex screw.

I've found the 1994 catalogue of Fernandes and it seems to be a FRB-100, but I've read somewhere else that outside of Japan it was sold as the APB-5.

I'm in. Need to get more pics, but this one has the gold lettering on the newer headstock. No serial number, but I was told early-90s, MIJ. While the original pickups weren't bad, I wanted more thump and the quarter-pounders do that quite well. Also swapped out the black PG for tort and put some chromes on it, naturally.
ETA: Nice and light at 8.5 lb.s

Are you sure about "RGB"? I thought it was RJB, a Jazz bass clone.
From my quick googling, dating a Fernandes is not an easy task. Good luck! The model itself seems to be modern, not something from 80s.

I have this Fernandes PJ Bass with EMH pups. The neck plate says Fernandes and the serial number is 7011119.
Can anyone tell me more about it?

There's supposed to be a Fernandes reference book out there...but I am unsure how well its maintained. It might be out of date.

I found a used blue one on guitarcenter.com. Not sure where it is manufactured, but I believe the model is a PR-45.

Just added Bart G66 Classic Bass pickups to my Fernandes Gravity 6. Also swapped stock preamp with a Noll 2-band so I can now do active-passive.

Hello guys, a new member here. I live in Korea where probably every single bassist play a jazz bass but man, those ain't my thing. So I was looking for a precision bass all over the city and thank god at least I found one in a pretty decent shape (and also a good neck shape) and dang, it also gives out that punchy p bass sound that I was looking for. I don't think I need an American Fender for many years cuz after all, regular Fender p bass necks are too thick anyway.

Btw, can someone figure out when this bass was made based on the serial number? I looked through the catalogs but man, I became more confused as I read more.

Just bought this beautiful fretless and wondering what info I can get on it. I was checking out New Mexican Fender fretless’s but this played was so much nicer at less than 1/2 the price. I took the neck off and the serial number started with 82. It has no scratch plate, the tuners also wind backwards like the old Fender’s. Any info would be appreciated.

Fernandes, as a company, is not quite so keen on maintaining updated records to verify quality or the year of manufacturing of their instruments. I have a 1999 model myself. I would say if it is made in Japan- like my bass, it’s a solid and well made instrument. If you can find any more information, you’re a lucky person.

I guess it’s not so important, its Such a smooth playing bass. A guitarist/songwriter l play with bought a Fernandes strat and also owns over 30 guitars inc a couple of pre L series Fender’s, top of the range Charvel Jacksons, Gibson’s etc. over the last year since he bought his Fernandes he doesn’t seem to play much else so when I saw this online I thought I’d try it out. The minute I got my hands on it I knew without even plugging it in just by the overall feel it was coming home. Once plugged it in I was totally impressed surpassing all expectations, won’t be changing a thing.
