The wood is pretty thick, so the carving would have to be pretty deep to really add up to much. But I get it if you would just rather not bother. Doing a (rattle-can spray) painted finish would be easier - filling the wood first and a prime/finish coat would get it presentable. If going that route - Bondo isn't the best filler out there as it can shrink over time. Small stuff no problem, it's just less optimal with a deeper fill. An epoxy filler would be better. There's a rattle-can finish thread on tb you could visit for advice and guidance if interested.

1984, maybe '85. I traded for it. It is a neck through and no model name on the headstock. No serial # either.

update : It would seem to be some form of a CH-1 bass from the '85 catalog - This bass was made for the US market, the cut made as to not replicate the Jackson headstock 100%. The first clue for this is the lack of "Limited Edition" or "The Function" on the decal, that was removed from the US models after a short while, leaving only the logo and the subtext. That change seems to have been coming in the spring of '85.

It’s obviously an LEB model. LEB-2 is the jazz bass.
My 1996 Fernandes Jazz Bass is an LEB-2N.
Your bass has some differences as a slot has been routed for truss rod access.
Your bass has a maple fretboard.
Is there a serial number sticker on the headstock?

The number on the neck isn’t necessarily the model. My neck has LEB1 and that is a LEB-1 is the P bass. The same neck was used in the 1&2.

There are a couple of Fernandes groups on Facebook. Those folks can ID the exact year and model variation.
