I've got to admit that I thought the Decades were the ugliest basses Lakland has ever stooped to make (I'm a '94/'02 body style lover) for the longest time but I had never seen someone actually playing one. Now that I've seen someone wearing one and playing it all of a sudden I get it! They're georgeous! It just hit me like a ton of bricks. I can't play one because I slap a lot and the neck pickup is located right wear I pluck, but turned on it's side to playing position has given me the total opposite impression of what I've had up till now.
MM Bongos did the same thing to me, come to think about it-- from now on I will not judge a bass's looks until I see it being played.

That's interesting, maybe one of the other guys with JOs or DJs with Chis can weigh in. On my Decade, the levels seem even--no mean feat, given where the neck pickup is!

I'm a lighter touch guy, so they should be great for me. I'm getting ready to put the Nickels on it and let her fly!
+1. I wasn't a big fan. But now I found myself hoping that they will make a 5 string Skyline Version...

So the Brown Truck of Love dropped off my new Lakland today. It's a Skyline Joe Osborn 5 CS crafted in Indonesia and has been plekked.
The craftsmanship is top, top notch. No gaps, no runs, no finish flaws. Tight, tight, tight.
The action is like no other bass I have ever played at any price (although I've not played a US Lakland)!

I used to think the 55s were odd looking, bordering on ugly. It took me a while to get used to the body shape, where the upper horn meets the neck compared to the lower horn. The body appeared out of balance, not symetrical. I also used to think that the multi-lam wood, single-cut, boutique style 5 and 6ers were the shizzle. Now, I can't stand 'em.
Yeah, and the bridge and neck are lined up perfectly! I've seen some 5 string Skys that had an A string that was off to one side of the neck dots. This bass looks perfect! Action looks SOOOO LOOOOWWW!
I took that close up (and many, many others) for the sole purpose of giving the greater collective here a chance to see the fit on these Indos. I'll post some more on the LOG site later.
I finally got the chance to put some Lakland Nickels on it and play some tonight. If anyone wants the factory stainless strings, lemme know....
The action, combined with the fret size is just an unreal combination. I can't describe accurately how smooth and effortless it is to play. It feels so natural. No other non-Lakie bass comes close. for me.

I have missed the whole crafted in indo thing. What was wrong with the korean manufacturer? I hope the quality stays the same. I love the build quality of the cort factory.
Maybe I'm being to conservative, but built in korea sounds higher quality to me than built in indo. Alltough it doens't show on you JO-pics.

IIRC the switch to Indo was not a choice, but necessary because the Korean factory closed. Correct me if I'm wrong guys.
Either way, change leads to fear and worry. So we've all been watching the Indo beauties closely. So far, very few problems have occurred, all of which were quickly fixed by Dan. I wouldn't hesitate a minute to order an Indo Sky, especially since they all get PLEKed.

It's just that korea has established a very good name in bass building. The cort's are of the best basses i've played in every category. From the action basses to the custom shop basses.
I've played nice Indo built basses, but not as supreme as some korean built basses. This wasn't because of lesser construction, but more budget components. So I guess there's no reason to built better basses with better components. Especially since they are plekked and checked in the Lakland workshop.
If I'd ever had the money to spend on another lakie, I'd definately consider an indo skyline.

i think i am going to buy a new neck for my lakland. i want an ebony fingerboard instead of rosewood...maybe a different nut material, too.

I got my glaub on thursday from the distributor in the uk. What i would like to know is what pickup the bass has in it. The bass is a made in Korea one - how long ago did the pickup swap happend to laklands own...
and everytime i see those decades they grow more and more on me....... argghhhhhh and i've only jsut got a new bass....
