Hey fellow Laklanders. For those of you with the LH-3 system, have you adjusted the output screw on the preamp to maximize the output of the bass? I tried this for a while and I about made some sound guys poo themselves at the amount of gain they were getting. I also was noticing it was very easy to overload the input of my ART tube pre getting clipping/distortion WAY too soon and at very low input/output levels. Anyway, I ended up lowering the output to meet yet slightly exceed the output levels of my 44 and 55-01's (MK-1 package) and this seems to have worked out well. I guess my question is whether there is ever a practical need to 'floor' the bass to its maximum output? Do most of you match the output of the LH-3 systems to your other basses, or tailor it to your preferred amp? It seems like most systems are unable to handle it without padding excessively, which defeats the purpose of such high output to begin with. I can't imagine how hot an 18v system would be if the LH-3 is only 9v. sheesh!

I guess I'm just rambling/musing about this... anyone have any thoughts?

What was wrong with the korean manufacturer?
Nothing.

IIRC the switch to Indo was not a choice, but necessary because the Korean factory closed. Correct me if I'm wrong guys :).

Either way, change leads to fear and worry. So we've all been watching the Indo beauties closely. So far, very few problems have occurred, all of which were quickly fixed by Dan. I wouldn't hesitate a minute to order an Indo Sky, especially since they all get PLEKed.
Just to add on, Cort's Korean factory closed, so Lakland chose Cort's Indonesian factory to produce the Skylines.

ok two things...

I got my glaub on thursday from the distributor in the uk. What i would like to know is what pickup the bass has in it. The bass is a made in Korea one - how long ago did the pickup swap happend to laklands own...

and everytime i see those decades they grow more and more on me....... argghhhhhh and i've only jsut got a new bass....
Attackbass, I'm pretty sure the switch to Lakland's own P pickup occurred in either late 07 or early 08. Check your serial number for the production date.

well i've emailed lakland about my neck issues already and the possibility of ordering all black hardware, but haven't gotten a response yet. i'll give it til tuesday or wednesday before i email someone else over there. :D
I'm 99% sure even US basses aren't available with black hardware (I guess there was one short run a long time ago).

ETA: PD's post reminded me, it wasn't a short run of black hardware--it was gold. Don't know if they've ever done black.

Speaking of hardware not available anymore, I wonder what one would have to go through to get a set of gold hardware-- aside from being Bill Dickens. I love the look of gold hardware on a natural finish 55-94D that was posted a few threads back; that guy needs to post that bass again so I can drool some more over it.

i have the bart system, but it still has the gain screw,
i always set it so that with everything set flat, it matches the output when i pull up the volume to put it in passive.
that way if i ever did have a problem at a gig, i could just put it in passive and not have to readjust my amp. also i noticed that with the screw pinned, i was clipping the input on my amps.

also, on a side note and a little off topic, i recently picked up a mark bass f1, ive been messing with my scheff, and 44-02 in passive, because the VLE knob on the amp works like a passive tone knob,VERY COOL STUFF!!!

I agree... if I bid at the end, sometimes I try justifying "a few more dollars" and the hysteria kicks in. BAD NEWS ;)
If you bid at the very end (12-8 seconds) you leave no time for you or anyone else to see the result and decide to bid just a bit more. If you bid at that point, you've either won it for what you thought it was worth, or you haven't.

It's what I do all the time.

i agree...in fact, i have two windows open at the last minute...that way i can refresh one and the other is ready for me to hit the 'place bid' button which will lock in my bid.

i usually wait til about 5 seconds are left, give or take a couple.

I sold a bass on E-bay last night (not a Lakie!) and it sat for 3 days with no bids. Someone bid the reserve with 30 miuntes left. In the last 10 seconds, 4 bids came it and the price went up 5%...

Yep...you have to make your 'high' bid at the last moment so you don't give anyone else a chance to beat you out on it...the more time they have to think about how much more they can snag out of the couch or the spouse's wallet/purse is more time that they have to outbid you.

lol. if you wait til the last minute and still don't win, then it wasn't meant to be.

:) our Lakland thread has turned into an ebay strategy thread, LOL.

If you make your max bid early, it's the same as making it late... it's your max right? If you truly wouldn't pay more, then it doesn't matter if you give somebody else more time to outbid you. Ebay will bid incrementally for you when you're not there to compete w/ the last minute guys. The benefit for me is that I don't have the stress, and I'm not tied to the 'puter at the close of the auction. If someone beats me by $5, then they paid $5 more than I ever would have. I can live with that. If I "have to have it", I bid at that "ouch" level, my true max. Since I started doing this, I haven't lost any "critical" auctions.

Exactamundo!

Has anyone got any more details on the 5-string Glaub? I saw the US model listed in the 2009 catalog, but there's no pics and nothing from NAMM that I've seen. I'd like to see this in a Skyline, but just knowing there's a US version out there would be good news.

It does matter. It increases your chance of winning to bid late, because you're not tipping anyone off as to what your max bid is.

I know for a fact that I successfully acquired my 55-94D that way, because the seller told me he had an email complaint from the guy I outbid, saying that I "cheated" by bidding that late because I didn't give him the opportunity to outbid me. Sounds to me, from what I'd heard, if I'd bid the same amount 30 seconds earlier I wouldn't own that bass. That matters :)

Andy

P.S. Notice how I (coincidentally) brought the thread back on topic. :)

Put me in line for a 5 string Skyline Glaub! It'll be next on my GAS list after a 5 string Skyline Decade...

NO Glaub 5er at NAMM - I believe it is coming real soon...someone at NAMM told me that they wanted it to be perfect hence the delay!
