It does matter. It increases your chance of winning to bid late, because you're not tipping anyone off as to what your max bid is.

I know for a fact that I successfully acquired my 55-94D that way, because the seller told me he had an email complaint from the guy I outbid, saying that I "cheated" by bidding that late because I didn't give him the opportunity to outbid me. Sounds to me, from what I'd heard, if I'd bid the same amount 30 seconds earlier I wouldn't own that bass. That matters

And if I'd REALLY wanted that 55-94D, I'd have bid like $2200 and let the ebay autobid thing bid for me in the last second.... would I have won?

We'll have to agree to disagree, my friend. And hopefully we'll never battle on the 'bay for the same Lakie.

my one and only "buy it now" was this baby, I didn't want to take any chances - I usually put in a max bid in the last 30 seconds and let ebay incrementally do the rest.

I have set a rule for myself of no more than 5 basses. Before the Decade I bought, I added a Inca Silver Lakland Hollowbody. That made six and it was looking like my 12 string would have to go---but now with teh Decade, the HB will have to go too.

I was OK with that until I pulled it out this evening and played for awhile (was only going to be about 5 minutes---turned into 1 hour). Man I love this thing, it is a great player, great looker, and sounds great. Now, I don't want to get rid of it, but I have to---I want to keep my 1973 4001 Rick, my Gibson EB-0, RD Artist, and Kubicki, so it leaves the choice between the Decade and the HB. This is tough. All of the basses have a unique sound, so getting rid of a duplicate sound is not an option. They all sound great and are distinctive. I didn't think I'd ever run into this sort of problem. Any ideas?

I would hold onto the HB and send the Decade packing. The HB is unlike any of the other basses you have.. maybe, chi-load your HB and get the best of both worlds

It seems like the only solution here is to modify 'the rule'. In time, with patience and perseverance, you'll learn to live with 7 basses.

Hey fellow Laklanders. For those of you with the LH-3 system, have you adjusted the output screw on the preamp to maximize the output of the bass? I tried this for a while and I about made some sound guys poo themselves at the amount of gain they were getting. I also was noticing it was very easy to overload the input of my ART tube pre getting clipping/distortion WAY too soon and at very low input/output levels. Anyway, I ended up lowering the output to meet yet slightly exceed the output levels of my 44 and 55-01's (MK-1 package) and this seems to have worked out well. I guess my question is whether there is ever a practical need to 'floor' the bass to its maximum output? Do most of you match the output of the LH-3 systems to your other basses, or tailor it to your preferred amp? It seems like most systems are unable to handle it without padding excessively, which defeats the purpose of such high output to begin with. I can't imagine how hot an 18v system would be if the LH-3 is only 9v. sheesh!

I guess I'm just rambling/musing about this... anyone have any thoughts?

Hm. I've never even touched it, though I've flipped all those dip switches seven ways from Sunday. It was a while ago, so I'm not sure which setting I left 'em on. Maybe I'll give that li'l screw a twist...

On a somewhat related note, we are on day six without power, and still have live lines and trees keeping me from my gear. SIX DAYS WITHOUT PLAYING IS KILLING ME!!!!
