Does anyone know if adding Chi-Sonics to my 44-02d would be irreversible? I've been thinking about adding in a Chi humbucker in place of the MM and a Chi Single in place of the... well, single. Is there extra routing involved to where, heaven forbid I prefer my bartolinis over the Chis, I could not switch them back?

Aah..... I knew yours was alder. Was hoping you'd played a mahogany and could compare/contrast the two woods.

I've played a few mahogany basses at GC: 30th Ann SR, and a Roscoe. They sounded great, not sure how much was attributed to the wood, though.

I'm fairly confident that you couldn't go back.

Finally got to play for the first time in two weeks today!!! I really missed the DJ (and it showed, WOW, talk about rusty). The yard is still covered in down trees, but we are moved back in (albeit without internet/cable). Hopefully things will be back to normal in the next week or so. Thanks to everyone on here for helping keep my spirits up!

They can't mix the two types for some reason.

Ah...gotya. I haven't played on...I would think the mids would be more pronounced with the alder.

My memory's a bit fuzzy on this, but I'm 99% sure routing is needed to get the Chis in there. Watch the videos of Ed playing his 55-94 with Chis to see if the tone is for you, and I'd also suggest asking Brian or Kirk about tonal comparisons, too.:)

Hey Jedi, I played Markus' Decade for about a minute at the shop, and it struck me as being brighter than the mahogany-bodied Skyline Decades. Based on that brief comparison, the mahogany, to my ears, brings out more of the low-mids and mutes the top end a wee bit.

Got a quick link? Well, aside from the one I posted with him playing the blue-ish one?

The only thing about Ed's playing is that he's either slapping or finger picking RIGHT next to the bridge. I'm usually in the middle or closer to the neck so it isn't a huge help in terms of comparing tone.

Thanks for the recommendation tho :)
