JO5 and 55-01 owner here. Played the 55-01 at an open mic last night and it was the best sounding bass in the house by far! The area is a little backwards as most of the cats had never seen nor heard a Lakland before let alone a '5 string' bass! Most cats play 4's (Peaveys, Fenders and an occasional Kubicki). I briefly owned a 55-02 but found the 55-01 more to my liking in terms of sound and playability! I can't believe they can be had for so cheap as they are nowhere near a 'cheap' bass.

I've been wanting one to hot rod w/ Nordstrands. Thanks for the GAS flare-up.

Yeah, I can definitely relate to the Lakland-ignorance. Around here it really is Fender and Peavey, with the occasional Warwick or MM. You always get those weird looks and the eventual mispronunciation, but they never fail to get compliments on the sound ;)

OK, maybe it's just me, but since the announcement of the BG5 as the possible LOG bass, I've practically stopped looking at the basses section of the classifieds (and that's saying A LOT, since I usually obsessively look at it about 100 times a day, lol). OK, carry on.....

Nearly +1 :)

I'm very excited about the BG5, but I still like looking in the classifieds. Maybe something will turn up making me forget about the BG5, but I seriously doubt it!

A fretless 55-01 was tops on my GAS List. It is been temporarily bumped to second pending the LOG bass announcement. I have a feeling that once that LOG bass hits, I'll be shedding the rest of my non-Lakies and keeping the LOG and the JO5 CS while looking out for a 44-01 or 55-01 fretless. And a 5 string Skyline Decade. And a (insert model # here).

Markus, when will you ever learn? Although that is a great looking piece, it is defective. Having a bass without a B string is like having a bicycle with no seat. You can still ride it, but it's not gonna be fun. :hiding:

He he he! OK...well to be honest I was only using you post as a vehicle for the delivery of my link:-) Thanks for the help!!! He he he!! I thought the B string was a way of compensating for the diminutive size something else? :hiding:

I'm kidding! I'm a kidder!

I freely admit the bass was injected with banned substances during a return visit to the Lakland factory.

It is a role model (for NASTY)...

The diminutive size of my ego? Awww, you're so sweet, lol. Seriously though, I've tried a few times, and I just can't get the hang of a four banger. Oh well, I'm sure there are worse things about me than that (as my wife would surely attest given four or five hours.....)
Cheers.

I'm a sweetie too:-) I hear yeah...it took me a will to switch to 4's from 5's. If you like 5's, no reason to switch now!
