So I've installed the LH3s into my Am USA 55-94. I'd been really thrilled to hear it because I hadn't been impressed with the sound of that bass before. It just didn't sound right. I am an ash/maple man (not that I am Pinocchio!) but that bass sounded duller and less live as the other, the alder/rosewood/barts bass.
Since my friend had that 'quiet A string' issue with his LH3s (he plays nu/alternative and uses a pick) and I didn't care for a pick, we decided to swap.
Man, was there a difference! It's just the sound I was after: the snappy bity cheerful snarling of ash and maple right away! And I only adjusted the pickups 'to my eye', and didn't have a chance to hear it before the rehearsal. I was A/B-ing the two basses throughout the 3 hours of playing, and the bandmates were definite, they pointed their fingers: this one! Both pickups '60-ies jazz' coil tap, or neck pickup @ 3 o clock, or bridge pickup only, it is just the sound. Didn't have a song to play the 'Sting Ray', but I tried it and it was quite promising.
The only catch was, I couldn't dial in a 'precision' sound, the alder/rosewood/bartolini bass seems to nail it closer. The LH3 is, like someone put it, 'shallow' in the precision situation. It is either too bright or, vice versa, too dull, and lacks that thump. I think I might be able to find it if I messed with the mid swtches (I still have the Bartolini preamp), but on the other hand, I just can take the other bass.
The other good thing was, the pickup swap was to the better for both of us. I git the sound I just described, my friend gets much more density in the low mids that he could very much use
So it is was quite a Hell to the yeah! thing for me (Yeah! I know I'm stretching what was supposed to only serve the Chis, but that's what I feel now)

Well, you're pretty much judging by yourself. Everyone knows and needs not ask that, you'd get each and every rare Lakland (not to say about a prototype) without any questions!
But, since I can't get this one, at least I can keep everyone (including myself) well informed!

Is there anyone else but me who's interested in, what designs and idearrrs the Hon. L.O.G. Board have come up to for this year? Someone, GregC IIRC, wrote you could see the current T-s in the Events department of the LOG site - but nope! neither Events nor Past Events. Nor are they available in the Shop. Or, is it just I can't tell the difference between them and the old ones?
That was me, Dennis. Here's a link to the thread in the LOG events forum, the design is right there in the 1st post! I'm sure you can tell the difference, there are 3 basses in it--including a five-string.

I shall give a full report. I'm thinking of leaving the Lakland stainlesses on there at first to see how it goes. I'm usually a nickel guy, but with those pups in those positions, I wanna hear what she's got... Thoughts?
