Looking into possibly pursuing a new/used Skyline 44-01 . Is there a serial number starting point or any other sign that a given bass has been Plek'd? Hate to buy old stock if this feature is in circulation.

awesome fretless P tone, and with a flick of a switch, instant Pino?

I modded an old Aria jazz copy w/ MM and P pups, and FLIPPIN loved it! Woulda kept it if it had been a 5er. Still want a Lakie 55 w/ that pup config someday. I think it would make for a KILLER fretless!

I think the j pup on the -02 is a split coil tho. mine sounded incredibly close to a p when just on the neck pup and picking on top of it.

The lakland J is a single coil, but they do this killer nifty trick to get rid of noise and hum.

I wont blab about any secrets though, but yeah solo'ed neck has p-bass phatness.

the reason I said split coil was because on extreme bending with just the neck pup I had a loss of volume with the d and maybe other strings. can't remember exactly. I don't do it that often tho so it wasn't a big deal. I figured it was just the design of the pup.
