I want to pose a Lakland question, Was your Lakland Love instant or did it develop over time?

I remember in the mid-ninties stopping by the factory and test driving a few basses, and being blow away, USA was the only option.

Years later I bought a 5501, but it wasn't a keeper. I think more to do with it being a 5 than the bass.

I recently picked up a 4402 Deluxe and I liked it alot, and the more I play it the better I like it. That isn't always true for me, but it sure is for this Lakland.....

So, was it Lakland love at first sight or a growing love and respect for your Lakland?

for me love at first listen. hehe. how they play is a bonus, but they sound great and that's more important to me.

Well, mine evolved in looking for a 5 string. I have bad carpal tunnal and had tried a 5 string stingray, since one of my main basses was a SR4. The spacing was too close, so a friend recommended Lakland. I immediately had no hand issues with the 55-01 I purchased. Over the next couple of years I began a quest for finding "the" bass, and based upon my latest finding... it was Lakland.
I guess the true answer is both yes and no. I have played several Laklands that I knew immediately were not for me, but I have played MANY that were incredible instruments. The 2 I have now arent even that cut & dry... the 44-02 was OK, but I sent it back to the factory and ended up having to get a new neck installed.. when it came back, it was "mine". I had it posted for sale on TB and immediately removed the listing. The Glaub sat in my lap and felt like and old pair of jeans, comfortable, easy, all mine...
That probably didnt help much, did it??? Sorry, but I think when you play that 'right one', your hands and your mind let you know real quick.... and you better hold onto them!
