np! it would be much worse if our situations were reversed and i didn't know about them and felt i had been slighted...if you haven't already, there's a link in my sig to show you what happened in one of the worst transactions i've ever had, lol. so, thank you, as well!

You bet. We just exchanged the pick ups but not the preamps between our basses, the 55-94 and 55-02. The difference just kills.
What's cool, we both like the new sound each one has now :)

edit: those were the Bartolini vs. the Lakland LH3.

I installed a PG on my 55-94 Classic. The bass was painted solid black so you could see all the scratching etc. So I got this [cream pearl] pickguard from Jeannies, the screws were included.
The shaping and slotting on the pickguard had been done very well so, when positioned yet not screwed on, the PG stayed in place and didn't shift.
However, I took a roll of tape (can't remember really if it was a painter's tape or not), and secured the PG, rolling right across in several directions. The PG was covered with plastic or PET, so it was ok.
Then I took a drill and put a piece of cork on the drill piece so that the hole wouldn't go too deep or drill scratch the PG, since I was drilling right through the holes provided. I'd taken the screws to a shop beforehand so they gave me a drill piece of the needed diameter. Drilling was easy and the paint didn't chip away like I feared.
That's it! Then I screwed the PG on, took away the tape and the PET cover, no glue marks remained on the finish. But even if they do, you should easily cope with a cloth where you may add spirit or instrument cleaning/polishing medium that contains alcohol

To me, my Classic looks nicer with the PG on:

My new Glaub arrived today....absolutely beautiful. Thesepics stink and I will get some more up later when I can get outside and not need a flash....anyway....here ya go

I thought about that but I decided that the double-sided tape would leave discoloration on the finish when removed because of the glue components. And might be under the pickguard too, due to lesser light exposure

Thansk guys...BWB pickguards and new sets of black beauties will be going on these soon. I got to play the BG through a DB750 into a DB212 tonight...and WOW...I am ready to sell all of my eden stuff right now to get that combination..lol..IT WAS INCREDIBLE

Well it all depends on how picky you are, really :D
I've owned basses old and new, stock and custom, not as many as some TBers do, but still. I was never able to retain the bass without any marks of a living being playing it. There are always slightest scratches, marks on the polish where you keep your right thumb at, slap/pop marks under the G string, etc. With time you're getting accidental bumps over narrow doors, cabinets and stuff on stage. Times were when I lost temper when an otherwise immaculate bass got a slightest mark. Now what really got me upset was, when my bass fell from the strap, but that's a different pair of shoes really.
So, if YOU doubt you're bothered by the scratches, don't mind! Play the bass and praise the guy who spared your feelings over the first dings! :)
