Holy cow, 12.5 hours without a post.... is it one of the seven signs of the apocalypse?
Hello...Hello...Hello... Is there anybody in there?
That second pic was taken at Arnold Schnitzer's old shop (www.aesbass.com). That bass is mine and it is a beauty. That was before the bass was completed and I got to take it for a test drive. It was a very cool day and I love that bass. It's the one in my avatar, but the lighting in my avatar sucked the big one.
LOGGERS, I NEED YOUR HELP! I'm going to be ordering a p-bass, but I need pics of the skyline dj WHITE PEARL finish. If you can find one that really brings out the color and sparkle, that would be absolute tops.
I'm going for a 4 string p-bass, white pearl metallic finish, b/w/b pickguard, rosewood (or ebony board.. not sure), pearl blocks and binding, Lakland p-pickup, drop tuner. The bass is going to own. I'm on the fence with alder or ash. Alder, in my experience, is very inconsistent. It sometimes is very warm and resonant, and dead at other times.
Thoughts on the consistency of alder? Thoughts on whether fingerboard wood really impacts the tone on a fretted instrument? Thoughts on life itself?
hey, Blondie. Nice avatar! Thanks for the white dj pic. KEEP EM COMING! I need a few more to really get a feel for the color. any ourdoor pics anyone?
I think the most unique Lakland stable goes to Markus. That J-sonic, the decade, the 4-07 proto... man, I hate you.
Agreed, but at some point you have to stop... otherwise, people will start saying that different strap materials affect their tone in major ways, lol. I can see it now....
"I got the new Levy's 'Extended Sustain' Strap and it seriously filled in my tone!"

and for you people thinking of doug's idea. butterscotch blonde:

Or a really rough interpretation of Doug's idea.....

so which do you all like better, pickguard-wise (because we all know the pickguard shape affects the tone):
this
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] or the one above with the funky shape.

nice collection.....missing here already!!!! feels empty without her.....nice RIC BTW!!!
I see 1-2 of those going and the Lakie contingent growing.....
Fingerboard wood: Carl put it in pretty logical terms to me. The fretboard is a thin layer of wood on top of the neck, and it's divided into small segments by the frets. For any given note you hit, that's such a small part of the bass that is resonating compared to the body. That opinion makes sense to me.

I only have one bass with an alder body for sure, my Fender P. (My old Ibanez from the '80s could be, but I really don't know--the finish is thick as hell!) It's light and extremely resonant. It's also 26 years old
Initially it was, but they went over so well that it is (for now) a standard production item.
I REEEEAAAAALLLLLLYYYYYYYY wish they did it in a fiver, though![]()
Just go ahead and put this at the top of your signature. Make it so it's a "P.S." at the end of each post.![]()
Thanks Amigo! (celebrating Cinco de Mayo one word at a time)

the color is wrong, sorrythe warmoth body is closer
Just observed the Wiki to see what the holiday was, and loved these parts:
"Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is a regional holiday in Mexico, primarily celebrated in the state of Puebla, with some limited recognition in other parts of Mexico...
Cinco de Mayo is not "an obligatory federal holiday" in Mexico, but rather a holiday that can be observed voluntarily.[6][7]
While Cinco de Mayo has limited significance nationwide in Mexico, the date is observed in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride"
It's like, "hey, we don't mind. We don't really celebrate it but we're okay with you, locations around the world"![]()
with the pickguards, a combo of the two would be nice. I like how the funky completely bypasses the pickup, but I don't like how to covers both horns. a mix of the two would be cool.
