Thanks. As I say, the Fender has now been sold. My ESP 400 Series Jazz blew it away but I want to get the Darryl Jones as my main bass. I just can't decide upon Lake Placid Blue or Black with a black pickguard
LPB is killer in person but there is somehting about a black on black DJ that is ubber sexy to me.....go B on B!

HAHAHA I can't replace the Musicman I am afraid. It was my first dream bass and so want to keep it. It will be put in its case to bed when the Darryl Jones arrives though
I am going to have to go and see the Lake Placid Blue in person. Every picture I see of it is different. I am also a bit worried its going to be a little bit to caberet. However, I am worried the black on black is going to look to metal, to Metalica etc.
At least its nice to worry about just the colour and not if the bass is any good

Panda, I think it's time you met some very nice, affordable second-hand Lakkies. Even non Chi-ed ones will do you fine. I am still Chi-free, and I haven't dropped dead yet

JK!!! Yes...pick up a nice used one! Any of the Laklands out there should kill. A used DJ 4 lit my fire for Laklands. There all good!

I need an advice. I have a US DJ4 with a maple neck and I'm looking for a rosewood neck (I have a post down at WTB which was generously moved there by the kind moderator from the "for sale" forum...oops). Happyface already commented there but i think I'll get more attention here.
Why doesn't a Skyline neck fit the US DJ? Brian from Lakland affirmed this and so did Happyface. Have anyone tried?

I had Sadowsky pickups on it and have just replaced them with SD antiquity II - Beautiful! Much Thicker !

Why would you want to put a skyline neck on the us bass? The US Neck is so much nicer. I think they won't fit as the neck pockets are a little different. Not all US necks are interchangeable, even within the same model. There are slight differences because they try to make the neck fit in the pocket very tightly.
Nothing happened to my neck, It's great. It's just maple and I mostly play rosewood necks. I bought this bass as my ash/maple bass. I ended up liking it so much I would like to make it fit my basic sound. that's why i swapped the pickups too. This bass is the one i pick up most of the time. more then my Alleva and more then my '66 Jazz.
ah gotcha. in the long run you may be better off selling it and buying the one you want, but that's up to you. 
I agree with HappyFace. I can tell you that Carl Pedigo, Lakland's head luthier, believes that fretboard wood doesn't make much difference in sound (OTOH, he thinks body wood makes a much more substantial difference). Also: I own three Skylines, and while the necks are very nice, they aren't the pure butta that a US Lakie neck is (IMO). I think you're better off selling the DJ and getting an alder/rosewood JO (the ones I've played have been great).
