Yeah, that was part of the deal. It's OK, just a little (A LOT) more work on my end. Also, after paint, it's going to Roger at Jeannie's because the P/U opening is a bit large....
Eventually, I will have a killer bass!
you're going to get a full pg made for it or just the way it was in the gtg pics? maybe you could do it jazz style and have a separate control plate, lol.

Very interesting, Randy! I was thinking it through. At first I thought 554 might be the serial number, but US Glaubs are in the 400s.
As for 5-54: The Fender Precision went to a contoured body from a slab body in 1954, but it still used a single-coil pickup until 1957. Hmmm. I would suggest contacting Carl about that and the battery box.
Good luck on the paint choice! That's going to be a very cool bass.
yeah...i thought it looked pretty neat with just the control cavity covered, though. i guess it depends on the final product, too.
Some quick pics before it goes away again for paint...
Upon closer inspection, I'm back up in the air about the finish. With it being the Prototype, there's a few measurement marks and nicks, so I might just go towards a solid finish.... still deciding. The birdseye on the neck is pretty great by the way.

Thanks. Looks good from a distance, but there's a lot of blemishes and marks, so it might just be getting a solid finish (putting up hate shield now, lol).
Naw, those would just add to the desirability & releive you of the worries of those first dings.

Ummm yea. This bass is great. Looks great, sounds great, feels great. I played very very very briefly with the rounds on there. It makes me want to get it epoxied so I can put rounds on, but I'll wait until my p-bass comes in to decide for sure on that.
There is a bit of a flaw in the neck near the nut on the treble side. It seems like some finishing is missing or something. I'm not sure. I'll take a pic to send to the crew. It doesn't interfere with playing so I'm fine with it for now.
The body grain is fantastic and just what I wanted. The vintage tint is awesome. It sounds great with the flats... I don't know what else to say. I'm very happy. This could be my only bass and I'd be happy forever.
