I took my New Skjold and my Berlin Combo to a rehearsal last night and I couldn't have been happier with my tone. Felt like I had a sonic knife at my disposal.

This was the first time I was able to crank the rig up and as much as I liked it at lower volumes in my apartment, I had no idea just how mean sounding I could get. The only thing I would have changed is putting a gramma pad underneath or tilting the combo back as it was coupling with the floor a little too much.

I think the combo my end up residing at my rehearsal space, so I am thinking of picking up a 121H for home and to add to the combo for a gig. I have no idea how this would sound, but it seems like a decent enough idea since there isn't a matching 15 for the combo and frankly the Berlin was a little too much for my apartment.

I've joined the club and become a Markbass fanboy. I've been looking around for a new amp and had every intention of buying a new head and cab. Then I walked into GC and played a Markbass Combo 210.

I dropped my jaw.....what an amazing sounding piece of equipment. I've read the raves on Markbass equipment but I never expected to hear the tones I was able to produce with this amp.

The combo even helped with my relationship with my wife.....she thinks my "bass stuff" takes up too much space and I think she was surprised hen she heard the volume and tone this baby has. Wait until I add a 15in cab! ;)

Anyway here it is!

I'm glad to hear there's somebody else enjoying their CMD 102P combo as much as I enjoy mine. The thing is probably the best piece of gear I've ever bought. If I lost it for any reason I'd buy another one the same day.

I find the combo alone is enough on most small and medium gigs. But the 15 does fill out the low end a bit when I need to get a bit louder. More importantly, perhaps, it gives a little more headroom as you're running somewhere below a maximum of 500W into 4 ohms instead of 300 W into 8 ohms.

Yeah!! That's the rig :hyper: Beautiful!!

My wife already thinks I'm nuts and she thinks my gear is taking up too much space, so, I'll wait a bit. My combo is only two days old and everyone says the bass travels through the whole house...go figure!?

I think they would send me to the garage if I added another cab now.

So, I've got some outdoor stuff happening in the next few months. I usually run my LMII through a 4-ohm 410. It's fine for 90% of what I do, but here comes the other 10%.

I was thinking about grabbing up a cheap-ish power amp, then running the LMII through my 410 as always, plus running an output from the LMII (the tuner out, I guess), into the power amp, with it powering my 8-ohm 210 atop my 410 to enable me to push a little more air.

I realize that I would not have a single volume control for that rig, since the tuner out is a constant level.

Aside from that, what is the general opinion about this approach?

It doesn't work. I've tried it... with many power amps.

The LMII was simply not designed to be used as a preamp. Period.

The ONLY "wet" output you have is the DI, and it is simply not hot enough to drive at least most, if not all, power amps to full output, and then you have to start using an outboard DI for the board. I suppose if you got a beefy enough power amp whatever portion of its power you could realize might be enough, but I would be concerned about the signal to noise ratio since your input signal would be lower than desired (closer to the noise floor). It would also be extra "expensive" because you'd be paying for Watts you couldn't access. I wouldn't do it, anyway.

Some of their other models have adjustable DI levels that can be set more than twice as hot as the LMII, and those might work well enough, but that doesn't help here of course... just an FYI.
