This came my way a while back:

It is in very nice condition but does have some small dents in the finish and the nearly obligatory small crack in the neck pocket that is so common with graphite neck basses. Shortly after it arrived and before I really had time to play it much a friend offered me this G.Gould ggi5 that was built for the 2020 NAMM show.

I had to have the Gould bass so I foolishly sold the GV. It went to the buyer over the Thanksgiving holiday. He requested that I ship the bass the day prior to the holiday so that it would arrive after he returned home from visiting family. It was shipped FedEx ground, insured and direct signature required. He arrived home Sunday night and found the bass sitting on his front porch in the rain. He inspected the bass and decided that he didn't want it because of the crack in the neck pocket (I was unaware of that crack when I sold the bass but it may have been there). So then it took over a month for the bass to find its way back to me. Fortunately it was not damaged along the way.

Now I am so happy that this bass came back to me. I have been playing it in church most every Sunday since its return. The tone is fantastic, it is light weight and plays great. The Gould is a fantastic bass too.....but that is another story.
 
Bought a GV neck off Reverb for dirt cheap. It's got a slight backbow. Will string tension straighten it out or is the neck too stable for that? Building a body for it and it would be a shame to get it all cut and designed up only to put strings on and find that the neck is a lost cause.
 
I loosened the strings on my GV and the neck went into back bow. It was easy to see the bow while sighting down the fingerboard.

I suspect you will be okay. If it is still too straight with normal size strings (mine are D'Adarrio EXL 170-5-SL which are .045 to .130) you could go to larger strings to increase the tension and relief.

You sir are my hero. I also run .130-.45s so plenty of tension. I'm not going to stress about it then. Thank you!
 
The neck is not nearly as stiff as a full graphite neck. As you probably know, the G and GV necks are wood necks with a graphite overlay. They are quite stable but not nearly as stiff as a graphite neck.
I did not realize that but that's good to know! I see it seems that they put some sort of opaque black paint or something on top of the carbon fiber. I can see through it in some spots that seem to be more worn. I like that it's a nice thin profile. I'm looking forward to getting it on a body.
 
I just scored a GV off Reverb. I had been looking on and off for the last couple of years, and it seemed that when I had the funds, there was never one available, and when I was broke, they would suddenly pop up. This one is on it's way to me. The seller says the condition is very good. Only mod to it is the wood screws were replaced with machine screws.

What were the dimensions of the machine screws
 
With the truss rod adjusted to minimize relief, you can then use the micro tilt (or better yet a shim) to get the neck angle adjusted so that the bridge saddle adjusters are in adjustment range.

I did it in these steps:

1. Adjust the truss rod nut for minimum forward bow with the bass tuned to pitch.

2. If the bridge saddles are not in adjustment range...loosen the strings, loosen the neck mounting bolts and then make an adjustment to the micro tilt.

3. Tighten the neck mounting bolts, tune to pitch and check to see if you now are in proper adjustment range for the bridge saddles. If so, you are ready to complete the set up. If not, repeat the above procedure until you have the bridge saddles in adjustment range.

Note: For what it is worth after adjusting the micro tilt I tightened the neck mounting bolts closest to the head stock first. If you tighten the bolts closest to the body end of the neck first you MAY cause the neck to tilt in the neck pocket.
